DON'T JUST SIT THERE, SAY HELLO ALREADY
My name is Danny, I am a happily married man. I met my wife Linda when I was 14 and she was 12 years old.
We have 6 children. My 5 year old daughter Jamielee was Killed by a drunk driver April 12th 1988. She is an important part of my inspiration to write poetry.
I served 8 years in the US Army. Some of the Best and the Worst times of my life.
This is her poem
The Stolen gift
August sixteenth nineteen eighty two
Came to me a gift, an angel, it's true.
My job was simple, to care for and love.
It was obvious to all, she came from above.
Ginger girl hair with an ear to ear grin,
Melting my heart again and again.
Fast did she grow, tall did she sprout,
Daddy's little girl without a doubt.
Jumping and bouncing oh how she'd play
Birthdays and scouting and even Ballet
Markings on the table and hand prints on the wall,
But the best of these, holding her after she'd fall
Then came that devastating blow
The pain that no parent should ever know
April twelve nineteen eighty eight
Came Jamielee's tragic fate
You are so energetic so full of love and alive
You shouldn't leave now, you're only just 5
What will I do? How will I cope?
I'm out of ideas; I'm out of all hope
One man's error, he didn't think
Don't drive a car after you drink.
Devastation and horror and too much strife
Brought to an end, my Jamielee's life.
I couldn't protect you from the drunk driver you see
I begged God to listen, to please hear my plea
But I guess I wasn't loud enough to get God's ear
And so I am sorry I let you down my dear.
So I wait for the time we are together once more,
when the heavenly gates open that door.
Will you be mad at me for loosing the fight?
For giving up hope and loosing my sight.
I wish I was the man God created me to be.
Probably then he would have listened to me.
And we would be laughing and playing not sad.
You'd be my daughter and I would be dad.
