What's Cowboy poetry?
You haven’t heard of it? Keep reading.
It has its own brand of charm, humor, and love.
If you like Country Music or Southern Rock, enjoy watching rodeo’s and have wondered, “What WAS he thinking,” as you watched that bull twist under the “fearless” cowboy, toss him off, and stomp him into the ground, or if you just enjoyed folk tales as a kid, you’ll enjoy cowboy poetry.
This is a tradition that has been transferred to the page as it’s grown from its oral roots. Cowboys did have time to think and reflect as they were “out ridin’ herd”. Most were illiterate, but they knew how to speak and they were inspired by the work they did and the sights they saw.
Inspiration requires no formal education. Rhythm and rhyme are great memorization tools and guess what? Cowboy poetry did for the cowboys what nursery rhymes have done for millions of children. After rollin’ their rhythmic thoughts around in their minds and perhaps sharing their words with the wind, they would try them out and share them with their buddies around the fire at night.
I cannot provide the campfire, but you are most welcome to get comfy and enjoy the inspiration of this cowboy’s poetry and tales.
Thanks and I hope y'all enjoy my writes..
