Am constantly inspired by good books and good poets, not by song writers. These poets include Billy Collins, Sharon Olds, Dorothy Porter and Mayuzumi Madoka. Other influences come from prose writers such as Helen Garner, Gogol, Raymond Carver and my girlfriend.

Please don't give me polite encouragement; I prefer honest critical responses so I can improve my poetry and get it published.

I prefer crafted poems which contain images and show an interesting use of language, and which contain insights into the human condition. I don't often like writing which is only a raw outpouring of emotion, or which merely contains a message.

Poetry should have metaphoric resonance. It is best when it's aware of its line breaks and structure. It's the use of language and poetic devices which makes a good poem.

Friends call me a romantic with a good sense of humour, but sometimes I am too honest for my own good.

Currently trying to write erotica and graphic sex poetry, but it's difficult to be both erotic and graphic at the same time. Perhaps it's an impossible ambition...

    BJ,

I have read through your poetry and sadly I believe that the difficulty we are having understanding each others poetry is purely a language barrior for I can not understand any of your poetry. Please excuse the message that I sent you in response to my poem, "Irony".

    Blessings to you,

    Rev. Alimae
