Sixteen
There is a war going on
a war involving me
Between innocence and maturity
Maturity likes makeup clothes and boys
Innocence likes barbie dolls and toys
I need to maintain a sense of both i see
Innocence and maturity
There is a war going on
a war involving me
Between innocence and maturity
Maturity likes makeup clothes and boys
Innocence likes barbie dolls and toys
I need to maintain a sense of both i see
Innocence and maturity

Like a force of nature
Like a storm
Like a perfect melody
Like a sweet enchantment
Like a sweeping movement of the swing- going upward
When you were a baby- you were all this.
We never could believe,
Your father and I we made you
Our love had turned
To flecks of gold
in the deep black pools of your eyes
Your curls tumbled on your shapely head
Like dark clouds around the shining moon
You tottered on your two-year old feet
While my intoxicated heart danced behind you.
my joy turned some god envious
So eager,so greedy, so happy
Your skin glowed like fresh flowers
And your lips like an angel's
Wet and glistening with nectar
Waiting to spill sweet babble
I hold you again in these lines
But you escape into the mist
And I wistfully wish for a gift
Of your innocence back in my arms.
