blueyez on October 25I love all you have to say in your page... and fooey on the doc that wrote dementia on your chart

-
ea on October 20
Wishing you all the best on your 89th birthday, William, and many happy returns of the day.

-
Vera Rich on October 12I learned your motto in a slightly different version as a child "Nil carborundum illegitimorum" (Don't let the bastards get you down!) Not good Latin, of course... but to the point!
But I do like the idea of the sheep marking dye being next to the hair-sprays. Particularly when one thinks of the etymology of "raddled"!!!!!!
Which, moving from sheep to cattle reminds me of the delightful name I found some 30 years ago in an Irish journal of occupational medicine, for the crushed fingers often suffered by artificial insemination personnel as a result of attending slender cows: "Bull-Man's Hand!"
Sorry... I seem to be in a crude mood this morning! -
Peripatetic on October 11Great stuff on you home page! It is good to know that life goes on until it doesn't. Thanks for not stopping before the journey's done!
-
Judith Chandler on September 19That diagnosis of dementia was wrong, wrong, wrong and your doc was full of you know what. I really enjoyed your page and would love to get your take on Spain. I spent a few weeks there some time ago.
Hasta la vista -
ea on September 3aerosols for color marking sheep!
I have got to get to Ireland...
You have the grand life, island hopping around over there. -
pasha on July 5You certainly do have an interesting biography! (Note that I called it biography and not "bio". I felt that bio might be in the same category as awesome and wow, and I heed your warning.) Turning 89 this year and still writing. You've won an awful lot of trophies. Do you know what might also keep Alzheimers at bay apart from writing poetry and doing crosswords? Playing chess. Do you play chess? Let me know. We could play by correspondence. There's a very organised site on the web. I'll give you details, if you want a chess game with me. What brought me to your page was the contest poem about the Gay Pied Piper. Lovely stuff! An inspiration. I'm afraid that most of what I write belongs on the top shelf in the newsagents. Keep well and keep on writing.

Sabir Abdus Samee on May 28Hello,
I am from Bangladesh and I studied in the UK. You have an interesting biography. Where did you live in India? Did you fight in Burma? My grandfather was born in British India (present day Bangladesh) and he died in 2001 (he was 97/98 years old). -
ea on September 22, 2008So nice to hear from you and see you back visiting for the first time in a year! I have wondered where you were hiding yourself on your wee Scottish Isle...

-
klassy lassy on October 13, 2007I have been a member of the Rosegarden for a while and have read a few of your poems, which have been marvelous, but this is the first time I've visited your page and I truly enjoyed it.
There is a man here who started a writers group which I belonged to for a while. He was a journalist so you and he have much in common. I was captivated with his writings about his WWII airforce experiences and the fulness of his heart. Although, I was the youngest member of the group, they made me welcome and I miss being there.
I've never been to your part of the world. Although it is not likely that I will ever do so, I have always thought I'd like to visit. You reinforce my intrigue. I am looking forward to reading your pages!

bethan-gaze on August 5, 2007So, you're off to West Donegal from the tiny island in Scotland ... fab! Something intriguing about islands. Don't suppose you know Barra by any chance? Looking forward to reading more of your poetry when you get chance to put pen to paper ... take care.
-
catz on June 21, 2007You have the most interesting bio on here, I think... the most interesting one I've read anyway.
You've lived an excitig life, it seems... and with wife #5, eh... she must be quite a lady
I think you better hang on to her
Now I'm going to read some of your poetry

AerinAlanna on May 10, 2007An isle in Scotland? How lovely! I have always wanted to live there, if only for a little while, just to see what it was that inspired such great leadership in the early 14th century.
Your poetry is lovely. I really like the war poems, because you take the glory and honour and spin them in with the sorrow and mourning and waste. That is not done as often as it should be.
Slainte,
Amanda -
sca on May 5, 2007That has to be the best profile I've read in a long time, made me laugh (and I'm hoping that was the point of some of it).

Mark Rickerby on April 27, 2007Just read your author page bio and found it absolutely charming, hilarious and engaging. Off to read some of your work now. It's long overdue. Thanks for the comment on my latest. That gave me a laugh, too. (The fuzzy dice comment.) I've been dying to use that background for a long time. Finally found one that it kind of fit for. (kind of not, too.) Hope you and wife #5 are doing great.

Wesley Storer on July 31, 2006Wow! Really awesome man! You have no doubt struck on the cure for Alzhiemers, which I didn't know how to spell until I read this. Gosh, you look like Peter Ustinov, a favorite actor fellow of mine. To have been published in several languages, especially in a technical aviation manual is a massive achievement! 85! Out of sight, man!

I agree with your theory that crosswords and writing can keep away Alzheimer's (I think I've heard that somewhere else before too), but my grandma has ALWAYS done crosswords as long as I can remember, she's in her late 80's and still lives on her own, so there must be something to be said of it. I intend to read and write to no end then and hope to live that long! You seem like a cool dude
Thanks for everything!

Keith on June 9, 2006Today we have naming of parts. You took me back to my schooldays with that. Easing the Spring, if I remember. We had an excellent English teacher who just let us read poems. And I read Reed, if you'll pardon the pun. Thanks for the applause, and I'll look in later. Take care.

The Conspiracy on April 12, 2006T.E Lawerence, Britain's greatest diplomat. He showed the world that Britain was not this evil world power who wanted to suppress populations. I've never read his actual works but I know of him - he's a great man.

rufina caraid on March 15, 2006I would appreciate your comments on the following when you have time please William. I was fortunate to have been born after the war but I read and I listen and try to take it all in. The 3rd one here is based on fact. I help to care for this man. He told me this small section of his story himself.
To this day he hates cold water on his skin.

Hello - I have added here a link to Henry Reeds 'Naming of Parts' and also to \Henry Reed's author page on Oldpoetry, as I see you are intersted in the poems of WW1 and WW2, as I am.
I've had the priviledge of adding the majority of war poems to our Oldpoetry site and I'm always on the look out for more. I hope you will visit Oldpoetry again when time permits.
Regards,
Von

zara on February 19, 2006My father was a pilot with the RCAF, 1941 to 1945, served for two years with the RAF in what was then Ceylon. I recently did a little research on him (he passed away some years ago) and found his name in the logs of the 160th Squadron. My poem "Eddie" is about him.
Lovely to share a name with your dog, though "zara" is my invented online name, my real name being a much more boring "Anne".
Thank you for your visit. After reading your author page, I'm glad you found the poem that you did.
