I Think Continually Of Those Who Were Truly Great
by Stephen Spender
I think continually of those who were truly great.
Who, from the womb, remembered the soul's history
Through corridors of light where the hours are suns
Endless and singing. Whose lovely ambition
Was that their lips, still touched with fire,
Should tell of the Spirit clothed from head to foot in song.
And who hoarded from the Spring branches
The desires falling across their bodies like blossoms.
What is precious is never to forget
The essential delight of the blood drawn from ageless springs
Breaking through rocks in worlds before our earth.
Never to deny its pleasure in the morning simple light
Nor its grave evening demand for love.
Never to allow gradually the traffic to smother
With noise and fog the flowering of the spirit.
Near the snow, near the sun, in the highest fields
See how these names are fisted by the waving grass
And by the streamers of white cloud
And whispers of wind in the listening sky.
The names of those who in their lives fought for life
Who wore at their hearts the fire's center.
Born of the sun they traveled a short while towards the sun,
And left the vivid air signed with their honor.

Nicolette : Season's Greetings on December 22, 2006
Dear Joe
In this month of Bethlehem,
of melodies and light,
I send you a harp of stars
and the candle of my heart,
honey-hued, vanilla-scented,
to sparkle in the mouth
of your winter moon.
Season's greetings, dear friend
- may all your wishes come true!

I came to see what I could do
to make you laugh and giggle too

Vivacious hugs to you from me!

..and that you have a gorgeous writing style, I'll have to come back and read some more. (-:

I just got to say to you that, my dear, your poems are the continual light in my every day. I LOVE that almost everyday you have a new poem for me to lay my eyes on, and even better that each one tops the last. You should write millions of poetry books and publich them all at once that way I would never ever have to stop reading your works -every day I could read ten and therefore be permanently set in happy days.
All my appreciation for your wonderfulness and talent, and my deepest gratitude to God for inventing you to be a poet.

So nice of you to stop by dear one. I know how life shows up and takes center-stage. I have many that I owe visits to. I hope they know I love them and think of them often. Our AP community is huge, and there are so many here that I respect as people and fellow poets. You, my friend are one of them. Take good care and somehow manage to see that the sun still shined even on a gray, cloudy day.
Always ♥

even more neighbors than you know – i work presently in the netherlands (maastricht). gods of poetry willing – we may meet for a BELGIAN beer one day, together with your better half (hey, i have to play up a bit to hermi, ok? ). many thanks for your neighborly visit, sandi.
-
well, back... more or less. so where are YOU smiling milady?
-
dear renee, so uncouth of me to leave your message on my page unanswered for so long, apologies won’t suffice, so i won’t apologize. just mention that life caught me drowning in its currents and i was for a long time out of breath. not complaining, beautifully out of breath. currents change, winds change, water mixes with events and people and time and from time to time i take my head out of the water wondering at all those beautiful people who visited me in my “absence”. thank you for being one of those beautiful people.
-
Popping in to see how you're doing and leave a basket full of sunshine to brighten your day!
I never realized you lived in Belgium, Howdy neighbor!
Thank you for your sweet congratulations for Hermi and me!

At last, I have the internet again! Oh my dear...
Did I have you worried? Your biggest fan can't be replaced or lost that easy.
I have been longing for your poetry like you wouldn't believe. I have so much to catch up on.

Yeah, I've been staying busy as of late. Been working hard and I'm back in school... So if I do come on its just to check messages and respond to them lol. I haven't read a poem of any friends in a long while... I don't even remember the last time I read one. That's bad... Maybe one of these days I'll get around to it once more. (Although your words and stories always were my favorite )
