Just wanted to let you know, I came by to read poems and instead clicked on your photo link and have spent the last 1/2 hour REALLY enjoying the photographs you have posted there.

I love the flowers but also everything else. Miranda is a budding artist! Allison has a pretty smile! And the knot or braiding of Japanese orgin is fascinating. Your picture of Vancouver with the mountains white-capped at dusk is just fantastic. Loved my visit and I'll be back to read soon. Hannah has her spring concert tonight, she plays the flute.

Wonderful, I'm envious. Look at that candlighting. The pictures reminded a bit of paintings by Georges de la Tour.

'Tis now the very witching time of night,
When churchyards yawn and hell itself breathes out
    Contagion to this world.

I almost choked at the clansman line until I realized what you were speaking of. That word has a much different meaning where I'm from.

Thanks, the vacation was great. I managed some writing the first weekend but absolutely nothing after that. Too many days of rain and trying to keep a 3 year old busy in the cabin.

Also thanks for your wonderful comment on my poem. It really does help to have another juggle your words around to see a clearer path to the same goal.

I hope all is well with you.

    John

  • Catressa on April 15, 2006
I was reading some of the works by Emma Lazarus and found a poem that for some reason I thought you would enjoy.. Not sure if you know who she is... Her most notable work is on the Statue of Liberty.. Take care and Happy Easter Catressa

The Taming of the Falcon By Emma Lazarus

The bird sits spelled upon the lithe brown wrist
Of yonder turbaned fowler, who had lamed
No feather limb, but the winged spirit tamed
With his compelling eye. He need not trust
    The silken coil, not set the thick-limed snare;
He lures the wanderer with his steadfast gaze,
It shrinks, it quails, it trembles yet obeys.
And, lo! he has enslaved the thing of air.
The fixed, insistent human will is lord
Of all the earth;--but in the awful sky
Reigns absolute, unreached by deed or word
    Above creation; through eternity,
Outshining the sun's shield, the lightening's sword,
The might of Allah's unaverted eye.

I'm gonna have to disagree with that defination of poetry John
  • on March 30, 2006
Thanks for that. I understand it better now.
  • SusanL on March 23, 2006
I like the addition to the top of your author page here. IT is not easy to define poetry I had an hour long discussion just last night on what lyrical poetry is.
  • Sunshinegf on February 22, 2006

here i think they are cool to read
i am so impressed to review over your work .

I took my first (and likely my only) Medieval fencing lesson Wednesday. I learned the four guards and how to lunge. Looks good, but with an actual opponent I'd be dead in about 3 seconds.

I guess I'll just have to keep Simon at my side, should a swordsman decide to attack.

Hope all is well with you.

  • Catressa on February 14, 2006
    Happy Valentine's Day hon
  • Mythtress on February 13, 2006
Hi dear...yes, I have been idle. Too much stress. My son is in a bad part of Iraq and I am constantly worried about him. You'd think I could channel that stress into writing but stress tends to kill my muse. Oh well... I think you have been doing just fine with your writing...keep it up!!
