"Poets to come! orators, singers, musicians to come!
Not to-day is to justify me, and answer what I am for;
But you, a new brood, native, athletic, continental, greater than before known,
Arouse! Arouse—for you must justify me—you must answer.
I myself but write one or two indicative words for the future,
I but advance a moment, only to wheel and hurry back in the darkness.
I am a man who, sauntering along, without fully stopping, turns a casual look upon you, and then averts his face,
Leaving it to you to prove and define it,
Expecting the main things from you."
~ Walt Whitman (1819–1892), from "Leaves of Grass", 1900

"To live in this world you must be able to do three things: to love what is mortal; to hold it against your bones knowing your own life depends on it; and, when the time comes to let it go, to let it go."

I Think Continually Of Those Who Were Truly Great
by Stephen Spender
I think continually of those who were truly great.
Who, from the womb, remembered the soul's history
Through corridors of light where the hours are suns
Endless and singing. Whose lovely ambition
Was that their lips, still touched with fire,
Should tell of the Spirit clothed from head to foot in song.
And who hoarded from the Spring branches
The desires falling across their bodies like blossoms.
What is precious is never to forget
The essential delight of the blood drawn from ageless springs
Breaking through rocks in worlds before our earth.
Never to deny its pleasure in the morning simple light
Nor its grave evening demand for love.
Never to allow gradually the traffic to smother
With noise and fog the flowering of the spirit.
Near the snow, near the sun, in the highest fields
See how these names are fisted by the waving grass
And by the streamers of white cloud
And whispers of wind in the listening sky.
The names of those who in their lives fought for life
Who wore at their hearts the fire's center.
Born of the sun they traveled a short while towards the sun,
And left the vivid air signed with their honor.

Hello you. I was just looking around my jaunty pill account and I realized you commented on my poem "most wondrous thing"...Thank you. But I no longer will be using that account. This is my new and permanent pome wall. I needed a change and something that would reflect my new-found maturity as a writer. If I have not told you that yet, I merely forgot.
I'm going to take a quick look at your stuff and leave a comment right now, if I can.

As I watch vermin in the undergrowth, and
homeless addicts not far behind, I ask
so? How the hell are ya?
-
hey handsome how you be?
.. me? Ornery.. as always.. hahaha currently wondering if the Mariners are ever going to figure out how to play baseball, and oh yeah what does the Sun really look like? Cause you know being that I live here I don't see it that much..
My husband told me that maybe just maybe I might get to move to Georgia this year.. How's that for news?
Take care of yourself for me,

Night Hope : For My Beloved Friend... on May 27, 2008
Ode to a Gardener
I hear him toiling in these fertile fields,
drenched in immaculate moonlight;
I weep for Beauty's sake,
aware of the depths of impermanence,
the grief felt when a single petal falls.
I sigh for the elegance of his task,
aware of jagged breaths in shadows
as he kneels in the nurturing soil.
He is weary, but cannot bear
the thought of a single seed
left unattended by Love's tender hands.
His humility,
his Grace
alters the simple rhythms
of my aching heart
& the universe grows quiet,
listening to his symphony
in stuttered amazement.
Stars fall from this vast night sky,
spreading light around my hearth,
illuminating my path.
There will come a day
when a sweet pea shall bloom
in nascent splendor,
understanding
& accepting
the magnificence
& mercy
within his knowing
brown eyes...

Catressa : Hey handsome.. on February 26, 2008
you know I am standing in my kitchen last night and got to thinking about you..
I wondered honestly wondered how you were doing.. I was making up some sweet tea for I went to bed, and realized that tea is kinda like friendship?
It has to steep for a while to be any good.
I feel that way about you. We can go for weeks without talking and I know that even if its only just two bits of sentences, its a treasure.
I love you darlin, and wanted you to know that.
I love you when your ranting, I love you when your soft, but mostly? I just love you.

Night Hope : My Review of Rob's Book... on May 22, 2007
I met Rob on a poetry website several years ago. I was immediately enamored of his powerful truth, his ability to tell a story with the utmost courage and respect dancing within his words. His is a voice of a lost and found generation; his poetry is classic, lovely, raw, profound and will leave you shaking your head in awe. His love of nature is obvious; his devotion to his family and his friends is legendary. He will laugh when he reads this review, because his humility and admiration for Kerouac and Ginsberg is well-known. I've been reading and writing poetry for over 34 years now; he truly IS better than most ~ as a poet, as a man, as a human being. Gift yourself. Prepare to be amazed. I always am.
