thats rad, i like collins, he's funny, makes you feel good, and he seems, through his poetry at least, to be a very cool and easy goin guy. but, i think writers like whitman effect me more as far as style goes, but collins is a influence on how to look at poetry, which is to tell it be, like in the poem intro to poetry, i liked your stuff too, its interesting

I agree with the choice of Billy Collins too as far as having the writer of a favorite piece. I liked "intro to poetry" also. I put "the lanyard" for my fave due to the underlying humor in it. I had the pleasure of hearing billy read that outloud in a lecture last October. He truly is a brilliant man.

billy collins. i think i know what you're talking about. interrogating a poem. i think what i got from the poem is not only that you shouldn't beat meaning out of it, bnut also that you shouldn't have to. it shouldn't take much more than holding it up to the light to understand it. which is why clarity is important. but, then, poems are poems and they don't mean anything anyway--go play in the rain. write what you want. be happy. but in the meantime, i'll keep playing poetry games with you and we can act like we know things. thank you. good night.
