I think you swore you'd never go through the pains of co-judging another contest again...

That being said, if you do happen to feel up to it, I'd love your help in judging my new one. I'm trying to get five judges that I think will make a fantastic board.

    Tell me what you think.
  • Elfin on October 28, 2006

thank you so much for the applause, and the comment. by the way, as far as the knitting goes, my mom had a port surgically inserted into her body so her oncologist would not have to insert and iv into her every time she went in, my mom has hard veins to find and it was a solution that would make chemo a little more bearable.

thanks again for the applause, it means a lot to my mom and i.

I am sorry to hear that your computer is not working well, but even more so that your health could be better. Indeed, a vacation might do you good. All the best dear Jim, I hope to see you again soon, when you are feeling (much) better.
You are in my thoughts and prayers. Anna

  • cherche -d -ame on August 5, 2006
I am so sorry to hear about your health problems May your upcoming hiatus from here be of great benefit to you and speed up the healing process. I read the note from Truembrace and I do second her opinion unfortunately . However I am a bit confused now as to whom has been affected by the gas-leak (you or her) as that note sort of seems to follow right after hers. But regardless of whom it is-----I wish you the best and will keep you in my good thoughts,

Actually, I can't change the background until the next free Gold membership. If I do, I get stuck with the blah backgrounds that are free here.

Sorry if it's nerve-wracking -- although some people seem to like it. Perhaps you are one of those "sensitive" types.

    Thanks for stopping by.
  • Emerald13 on May 31, 2006

Thanks for this beautiful page and for commenting on two of my poems. This system tends to not work the way I would like all the time and I tried to applaud your comments to me but am not sure that they went through! joy

I love the Desiderata. Never a true work was penned. Could you look at my home page and tell me if the poem there is correct in its wording? Thanks. Oh and may I add you to my favourites?

Wow... outstanding page here! Some mighty impressive accomplishments... You are most likely a mentor to many here. This is the first time I've visited and I'll be back to do some reading... Hopefully I will learn a little something!

You belong on oldpoetry, not allpoetry (that's not a crack at your age, that's a note on your poetry).
  • Claide on May 14, 2006
I find that I don't get a lot of replies on the better works I write.

It seems to me like the poetry with finer phrasing is least popular on this site. Perhaps it's because the overwhelming majority of AP users are teenagers my age and younger who opt for french fries over prime rib...

For the most part, I think the lack of good taste is the product of ignorance. Sure, I could write rhyming, metered poetry before I read the classics, but my poems were full of colloquial lingo and awkward phrasing (that I thought "sounded poetic"). People need to read the "oldies"
  • antique on May 11, 2006
I couldn't help but notice one of your poems was published by Numbat Literary Journal in Perth, Australia .. that's where I'm from .. piece of useless information for you, but I get all excited when I see it mentioned somewhere considering it's such a small place ..

I just wanted to let you know I think you are really awesome. I just needed to say that.

  • Philogos on May 6, 2006
Don't be too hard on the 'dumbed down'. Remember that it takes almost as much effort and time to read a good, complex poem as it does to write it. The few real comments one gets on a serious piece are really worthwhile. Sometimes one just hasn't the time to read, digest and comment on the really good stuff and it feels feels a bit of a cheat to say 'I can see this is very good, but I don't understand it yet.' vic

Hi there. I have just come across you, thanks to your latest very interesting poem. I will have to procrastinate on reading your works for now as I have to prepare for a night shift tonight! I have a copy of Desiderata on the wall in my bedroom, and ONE DAY I am going to try and memorise past the first 3 lines...It's great, isn't it? So wise.
  • NSYancey on April 16, 2006
Hello there. First of all, thank you for all the kind comments on my pieces. Particularly on my Mottled Grace/Adri Pheroa. The second language is not Gaelic, but rather is a language called Senare, a little known language because it is the language that I have invented. Yes, I'm one of those. Not trying to pull a Tolkien, if you know what I mean, but seeming to do mighty fine job at it anyway.

Left in Iowa? Where, pray tell, are you from in Iowa? I'm from Cedar Rapids, but I will be moving to Ames to attend college (ISU) in the fall.

Have a pleasant evening, and take care.

    Nick

PS: thank you for clearing up the whole "c'est la vie/c'est la vis" thing for me, I could never figure it out.

PPS: Thank you very much for entering my contest! I am so swomped with all the pieces, I am afraid I'm not going to be able to do it the justice it deserves, as this is my first contest, but I hope it will be alright. I think devoting a few solid hours to it will be the smart thing to do. Have a great day.
  • MoonHelixEpiphany on April 12, 2006
I applaud that comment..."dumbing down" is a issue i often see around...but poetry sometimes isn't literal and sometimes cannot be...metaphor, similes, etc are a tool to make that which we need to out of our words...

trophies or not, poets are for words...

    thank you for sharing Desiderata

    Kristy

    Dear Ecrivain,
Thankyou for your "soapbox" which exactly echoes my own experience. Luckily, although the few who do read and comment on my writing are a real bonus, I write for my own satisfaction primarily and my growth as a writer.
I shall read your work now that I have 'discovered' you.
Best wishes and regards, Hugh Wyles.

    The Republican Presidents, of course!
  • ecrivain01 on March 5, 2006
All American political adventures by Republicans are about power, so that doesn't necessarily mean oil, but it does have a similar twist. Republicans specialize in "abuse of power". Every time a Republican President gets into trouble, it's over "abuse of power", and with Democrats it's over sex. Which of those do you think could be more dangerous to the free world?
  • Shakari on March 4, 2006
Hmmm....my computer won't let me on the anti-genocide website. We watched a movie called "Rwanda Hotel" in history class. It brought tears to my eyes that people could commit such acts against eachother...and the same goes to the Holocaust. I have many relatives/ancestors that have been through, or remember such times. It is terrible.....and in Rwanda, I am mad that the U.S. didn't send any forces for help. I mean, they "are helping" the people in Iraq, in Bush's opinion, so why not help the Rwandan's? Well, I think it was because of the oil in Iraq...the government officials don't want involvement unless we get something in return.
