    what you said about intellectuals was so true. i haven't read spinoza (i glanced, and that was about it ), but i get the impression he- even more than most philosophers- managed to find a way to express his ideas that made them seem more complicated and impressive than they were. in the book 'Against Guilt and Justice,' Walter Kauffman argues that obscurantist language is a product of what he calls decidophobia- avoiding decisive statements and decisive choices

    speaking of intellectuals, i decided earlier today, after having a laugh with a friend of mine about how my philosophy is a 'Big Smoothie' of my experience, that i would like to write a populist version of my philosophy (with an even higher degree of accessibility that my elegant and delightful formal work!! ) of that title. (my friend suggested i write it in the Big Easy, but i think that would be carrying the joke a bit too far. besides, getting caught in a hurricane would be neither sweet nor easy)

    you have a strong desire to write and it comes from a genuine place within you. just don't rely too much on style and end result. there is something about your poetry that strikes me as restrained.
