her upcoming CD is even better than KD. it's a great assortment.

i like jukebox, but the rest of tha tcd is awful in my opinion. on occasion i will listen to "trickle down" or "angel food" but that is extremely rare.

    let's see..
ani difranco- great cd. "both hands," "rush hour," "the story," "fire door" and "letting the telephone ring" are all fantsatic

not so soft- and not so memorable lol. it has several decent ones, though. "anticipate," "make me stay," "roll with it" and "brief bus stop" are fine.

imperfectly- eh. it's good, but not great. "fixing her hair" is great, and i like "cirle of light," "i'm no heroine," "make them apologize," "the waiting song" and "served faithfully."

puddle dive- i was a bit let down with this one. i like a lot of the song, but some make me cringe... like 4th of july. i do enjoy "names, dates and times," "anyday (even though it should be two words lol)," "willing to fight," and "used to you." i give marginal propr to "my iq" and "born a lion." "back around is so- so.

out of range- i love this one. at first, i was lukewarm but now it's a favorite. "buildings and bridges," both versions of "out of range," "hell yeah," "overlap," <-- (!!!!!!!) "you had time" and "if he tries anything" are all amazing.

not a pretty- UUUUGHHHHH this is possibly my favorite cd out of ANY that i have. i LOVE every track on there... actually, i don't like "worthy" or "tip toe." i think it was a bad way to start off the cd. leave those two off though, and you have a perfect album in my opinion.

dilate- i like it, don't get me wrong... but it's horribly depressing. i only listen when i'm horribly depressed, and even that does nothing but fuel it. so, for that i deduct a lot. "untouchable face," "done wrong," "napoleon" and "joyful" are all okay.

living in clip- nice end to her better era, in my mind. i love the rarity in "hide and seek."

little plastic castle- how can anyone like the title track? puuuhlease. it grates on my nerves. i do like "fuel," "as is," deep dish," "pixie," "swandive," "glass house" and "pulse." but i don't love them in the ways that everyone else does... not that spectacular.

upx6- this is when i have to be nice... "jukebox"... and nothing else.

to the teeth- she redeemed herself. it's incredible. i love "soft shoulder," "wish i may," "back back back," "carry you around," "cloud blood," "the arrival's gate," "providence" and "i know this bar."

r/r- it's a nice cd. i like the 2nd cd best, but don't listen much 'cus once again it is way too depressing. still, i give props to "aint that the way," ok, garden of simpole, tamburitza lingua, heartbreak even and then disc 2.. grey, school night, subdivision and old old song.

so much shouting...- yeah, no fan of this. i hated the band era.

evolve- eeew. "evolve," "phase," "here for now," "second intermission" and "welcome to:" are okay... but not much worth the cd.

educated guess- this is where i picked up on ani. it was a terrible way to start off. i was introduced to her through "cradle and all" and i loved it. i downloaded a bunch, and was a fan. i thought i'd get her newest cd... it couls have turned me away. it was not a smart choice. here, there are so many tunes that get annoying... ie: origami, educated guess, etc. this would have been ten times better had it been done in the studio. i do like "swim," animal, company and rain check.

knuckle down- yeah, it's getting better. i don't see what the big deal about "studying stones" is. personally, i'd be fine without it. i do like knuckle down, man hole, sunday morning (one of the only happy songs ever lol), modulation, seeing eye dog, parameters, callous and recoil.... but major points off for paradigm and minerva... both of which i can never even listen to.
  • chat noir on January 7, 2006
her new CD is fantastic. i got it, and it was really a relief...

she's started writing some of her anthems again, like all the 'untouchable faces' of old.

i love dialate sooo much. and i like rev/rec so much just cuase either one can suit my mood. although now i dont operate much by album, but individual songs, as they're all on my ipod/computer.

and i love jukebox! why dont you like that one?

personally, i think her first album (its got dog coffee, firedoor, out of habit, every angle, both hands, the story, AND talk to me now on it -- what's not to love!!); not a pretty girl; dialate(ha, ALL the time.); and living in clip is an absolute masterpiece.

as far as little plas. castle? really i think two little girls and swandive are the only songs worth mention there.

educated guess is okay, knuckledown is totally awesome.

"Subconscious" is the name of one of the "untitled" songs I had mentioned. It's okay. It may be better once done in the studio.
  • marrow on January 7, 2006
I love "Decree," "Half- A..ed," "Nicotene," "Hypnotized," "Millenium Theater," "In The Margins," and " A Spade."

I don't like "Shroud" as much. Nor do I care for "Reprieve."

"Unrequitted/ All Of Nothing" is on my list to never listen to.

Then, I have two songs that are untitled as of yet, but are actually alright. They're not phenomenal, but listenable.

Oh, and "78% Water" is pretty good. So, all in all the new CD should be nice.

Really? See, I actually prefered the album version. shrugs

He liked "Cradle And All?" Hahaha, upbeat maybe but definitely not in lyrical content. I don't mind "Fierce Flawless," but it's one of those songs that I much prefer the lyrics to the melody. I do live R/R, but some of them just don't do it for me. I love "Ain't That The Way," "O.K.," "Garden of Simple" and "Heartbreak Even."

Don't get me started on some of the other ones. Mainly... all of UpUpUpUpUpUp minus "Jukebox". I may even make a slight exception for "Virtue," but that pushes it. That album was so not right in my mind.

I feel she was at her best from 90- 95. That acoustic era was my favorite... though "Puddle Dive" had its moments where I'd like to break it. "Dilate" is alright if you're in a bad mood, and I just don't get the hype of "Little Plastic Castle." Sure, a few songs are great but not more than some others. Then, I am no fan of Upx6. "To The Teeth" is probably my second favorite, and R/R is hit or miss for me at times. The live albums are okay, but I have better bootlegs mostly. I take a disliking to "Evolve"... shudders... but "Knuckle Down" is better. It's not my favorite, but it's a major improvement.

From the ten- twelve songs I have heard from the new CD, I think it may be decent.
  • chat noir on January 7, 2006
well he loves 'cradle and all' and a few of her other more upbeat songs...i think he'd like it.
  • chat noir on January 7, 2006
well which version? personally i like the one following 'letter to a john' on the 'stray cats' album.

the version of tabmuritza lingua isnt as great on 'revelling'.
  • marrow on January 6, 2006
It's a decent song. I'm not so sure it's your kind of preference, but the lyrics are decent.

Have you ever heard Ani's "Tamburitza Lingua" poem? Now that is good. I can send you that.
