You were one of the few people I could find on this site that seemed to actually care about writing poetry as opposed to babbling on about girlfriends and angst and wearing masks and wrist slitting, and I respected that. I must admit, however, that I have never understood any of your poems- I don't even really like them that much, but they seem to have required some thought, and that's more than I can say for about 90% of the poems on this site. thanks for the comment on the name
-
It's my old pen name, Daniel Marks.
-
Marks. Is your name mark? Are you marxist? Or do you like Marks & Spencer?
-
What the Sam Hill are you talking about, you mental little trouser sniffer?
-
You know I still consider Green Day to be a punk band even with all their success. They just do their own thing, and that thing happens to be quite commericial, but I don't think it makes them less punk. I don't think punk is inherently anti-commerical, or that it has to conform to a single style. It's more of an idea. Wait, maybe that's indie. Ah, but no one really knows what either of them means, do they? I think I wrote a poem about it somewhere around here. Under the contests section.
-
Hey. I've just read your really sarcastic comment about AP. It made me laugh even though it is VERY dry. And, just a quick note: Greenday aren't punk, seek out the indies if you want some real ear food.
-
I'm not trying to be mean, just trying to help.
-
I think its great that you can be so critical. That's one of the things I like most about this site, that you don't know these people, and yet they are sharing everything with you. So I say be as mean as you want if you think its helping someone out.

who are you talking about? usually i'm the one who acts like that with other people!
-
Your problem with people being a little TOO critical of unimportant things (really just trying to be assholes)-if you dont mind me saying so- you really just need to be blunt with them...tell them that you are here for criticism on your work not if you spelled something wrong or the way it looks. Personally I think you are a wonderful poet and should keep it up..don't worry about those douchebags they will thin out eventually
-
Hey, thanks for the comment... I'm still trying to find my way through the AP maze. I enjoy your work, and looking forward to reading more. ~Beth

well claire, usually the stuff on this site just isn't good enough to warrant a second look---yours is different. I made it explicit that I didn't want to try and interpret your poem-- and I didn't. I may read it again, to try and figure it out. And about hallmark cards---I make my poems read like those, albiet without the mushy sentiment, mainly because I know that most AP readers only look at something quickly, so I try to hit them immediately; you'll get it after one read. I started writing poetry for the first time on this site; so my entire poetic style (if I can be so bold to say I even have one) is designed to work on this site. I guess I expect that from other people sometimes---i don't know what i'm talking about. you're really good though, keep it up.
-
mmmhmmm, im not really sure what post modernism is... i dont think many people are - but it wasnt meant to be a mess, but it is, but well - i dont think you can really judge a poem if you've only read it the once, unless it's all simple and hallmarkesque - i dont know - who knows
-
Sorry Kelsey, I just tell it like I feel it. I a lot of kids use this site as a second Live Journal, but I'm a serious poet, and I take other people's stuff seriously. I want to be constructive, but sometimes there's a piece that doesn't appear to have any sort of artistic intent and I just don't know what to say to the person. I'm trying to be less blunt---could you point out any particular comments I've made lately that have been mean? That would be helpful--thanks
-
i have read some of ur comments and they are not all to nice i just think u should use constructive critisism not just critsize if someone spells somthing wrong inform them dont point it out as a flaw a finger could have slipped and if we pointed out all the mistakes im sure u would have some just try to be a little nicer k and dont insult the feelings in a poem because then u are insulting th person its not cool kk bye

What If We Died in Space?
by Al Kostalas
As my eardrums yielded to my body's pressure
I would whisper thickly to you but
what would carry my words to you--
exploding in your own right?
our eyes would swirl off together:
a tiny quartet of mutual revolution
our shirts, torn to pieces by the bloom
of ribcages, would create magnificient
venues of billowing cotton and polyester
our muscles would unfurl: a red carpet
for two unlucky hearts to make their debut
they would go
careening toward each other
would collide and spawn
an asteroid, a sad love story
and my whisper would hang in the cosmos:
the stars are beautiful tonight

You're a very humourous guy Mr. Marks. I'm pleased that I ran across that contest poem because it gave me the opportunity not to read your work (not yet at any rate) but to peruse your author-page comments. They're really very entertaining. I'm looking forward to checking out your poetry. Keep your wit about you - oh, and incidentally, I'm surprised you made the Annabelle Lee connection; there aren't very many people that do amazingly enough. Take it easy.

Yes...I could see how very amusing that would be...

Life is profound in itself. I'm just pointing it out.

I'v been reading some of your work. Alot of it is short and too the point, I like that. You have an interesting way of making a simple observation into something rather profound. Thats quite a talent, keep writing.

I for one find that hug emoticon disturbing, never use it and the people that do make me cringe. Just thought I'd share...oh also, the link to your picture doesn't work anymore.

Um we should stop this now.

Well he needed it to clear his name. It was a pretty complicated procedure, getting my virginity out and all. It was shaped a bit like a pear. But I was able to ship it to his house for only $5.00 Prioity Mail. I netted about 75 dollars which was a good deal. I don't really miss it. And I hear he's now a Bishop. I also understand that the nun who seduced him is now doing ads for the Gap.
-
Wow only 80.67? -was he the only bidder? If you had told me earlier, I might have placed a bid myself. Damn.
Anyhow, you're lucky you had a Priest. They have the most experience.
-
Well no no....he was not a necrophiliac. the character in "annabell lee" was.
-
-
If you look at it like that.... the way I always saw it was a guy mourning the loss of a love... I've never read anywhere or heard anything (until you) about Poe being a necrophiliac .... a drunk but not a necrophiliac.... I'm not saying he couldn't have been... you're right, he was pretty disturbed...

Juggalos....when will they learn!
-
I thought you were a pretty deep person who understood things from other points of view. your comment just shows how wrong i was. so what exactly do you have against ICP? so us juggalos/lettes live in our own little world, all the feminem fans have there own world and all them pop princessses have there own worlds, maybe if you read the poem a little more closely you can find the other dimensions to it, like the 'not understanding of another world' and all the shit like that. you have read poems i wrote before about ICP and you have no problem with it, but once someone states an opinion about your band you bitch. now heres a question for though; are you honestly defending something that you truly beleive or did you just get so mad because it was so damn true?
dont come back to my page, i dont want to see you there.
