Terry, thank you so much for your comments, here. You are such an interesting person!

What a lovely lesson for your students; what can be learned from it touches on so many subjects. They must love to have you teach them.

I have a BA in art and a minor in literature. My daughter is a musician (violin, cello, piano/keyboard) she composes and conducts, as well.

So good to meet you, dear lady; thanks for visiting!

    Regards to you,

    Melinda

The kindest of curiosity brought me to see your guestbook and I am not only impressed but amply rewarded! Your life has been full of so many good things, and I am happy to see success in overcoming the bad. By contrast darkness makes the light more brilliant, and appreciated more.

We share talent and interest in the Visual Arts. For the past three Fridays, in grade 7, I have taught 3D design through soap carving. Texture, line, and focus within what used to be a bar of soap has reality for them now. We call it "Putting Outside Inside," with many shaped holes creating not only negative spaces, but also in the process leaving finely detailed "positive" stringlike line within a strong outer frame. (The final touches are done, like brain surgery, with scalpels.) I can't remember if my poetpage says it but my BA is in French but I have minors in Fine Art and Music History.
Like you, Art was my thing for the first yeears, but I have also always written what colour could not definitively, say.

It has been a real privilege to find and read your guestbook, and to include you among my favourites!
    Terry (aka --Dee)

Sweetie, you are so quick!!! I had thought that while I still have the ability, to show you what I look like-- no sooner than I changed it, and go to tell you and I see that you already know!!

    LOL

Thank you for the wonderful compliments!

    You are so dear!

    K&L,

    Mel

I see you!!! Oh, Melinda, you do have the expression I imagined you had; serene, friendly, happy, full of light and beautiful just like your poems What a pretty friend I have!!!
  • Serenem on September 18, 2004
I am glad you found me, as well, LeRoy!

    LOL

Poerty is a good outlet for releasing those pent-up feelings-- it really has helped both my daughter and me so much.

Thanks for stopping by and reading!

    Regards,

    Melinda

Very impressive accomplishments! I read with interest your account of your daughters clinical depression, as I have been "down" of late, and writing poetry is one of the few ways I can "unload" some of my grievances and find a little solace.
    Nice to have found you.

Dear Zaffen, most people don't know that little fact-- it's rather obscure. Never put yourself down, okay? You are a fine poet with great insights.

    You have my respect, sir!

    Regards,

    Melinda

I thank you for the information on "American Gothic," my lack of anything above High School once again shining through, and your kind words on the poem.
I appreciate the time you took to help an "old" rookie.
    Be well;
    Zaffen

Gennelle, I know what you mean... I've read much of your poetry and felt a kinship with you!

I'll be reading your poem, shortly... I've got a few things to take care of first!

Thanks for stopping by to read this!

What a lovely and inspiring page you have, Melinda! I adore your artwork, I think we are kindred spirits. Always loved horses (brought up with them), especially in awe of Andalusians! Gorgeous things! What you said about the dualities of life reminded me of something I wrote that I thought you'd appreciate. allpoetry.com/poem/623778

I'll be catching up on reading your poems asap.

Thanks for the applause, I'm glad you liked it so much. I didn't write it for the contest, but I think it'll do alright. Cheers, Kat

I just wanted to thank you for the comments and applauses. It surprised me when I logged on and your name came up so many times, lol I've never had that much attention from someone...well positive attention that is.
I'm a bit emotionally unstable now, my eyes are sore from crying earlier, but when I feel a little better I'll be sure to return the favor.
  • painted veil on September 5, 2004
hey, thanks. I'm going to go read your november poem now- but vecause oh you- i've got the guns and roses song in my head now, lol- jeez thanks a lot. So anyway, I'm glad you liked it, I chose to leave it sort of open as to how he died because I didn't want it to be one of those really god-awful "jesus man, why did you have to die" poems because they bug the hell out of me, so anyway- thanks much.

Carl, You are talking about Raleigh, I'm sure... it's our state capital and about 85 miles north of where I live. I don't know them... but I'll also wager that you are referring to Duke University Hospital.

    ~smile~

Thank you so much, Carl, I really appreciate that. That's what poetry is all about... giving and getting pleasure from the written/spoken word.

I live in south central North Carolina, not too far from the (golf)resort area of Pinehurst.

    Thanks, again!

wow` what a lifestory at the start of this page ? lol and they say dreams never come true !, congratulations on your poetry and art doing so well you must be very talented.
I started writing poetry as a joke and that is all my poetry has amounted to really .. tis but a bit of fun to pass the time on dark nights.
where do you live in NC ? cos` I had pen-pals around that area many years ago but we lost contact .
thankz again for your kind comments

    Dear Criss,

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful words... I will forever miss my lost child; it is something that is always with me. I am beyond fortunate, however, to still have my daughter, Seren, who sounds so much like Elise! Seren, too, is getting better, with love, therapy, understanding and medication. She is my 'Beautiful Child'...

Thank you for being who you are!

    Hugs returned to you,

    Melinda

    Hello My Friend.

I first wanted to thank you for reading my poem "awakened by life, defined by death" and then I wanted to give you a *hug * because no mother should ever have to live without her child... no.. mother...

    Take care my Sweet,

    Criss

Trust me I don't mind your advice on my poems. I only started writing in June, so poetry is new to me. I have no idea what I.m doing. I write from my heart and my years of memories. I found a contest today and he was from N. J. and now lives in Minn. One of the choices he had was to write about the N.J. pine barrens. The ones that were on the Sopranos show. I used to go hiking there with my husband and children. Small world. Take care and thank you for the advice, Sandy
