I think I knew that you were from Ithaca, but I had forgotten. I lived in Penn Yan, Geneva, Canandaigua, and Honeoye, Rushville, Branchport... I used to go roller skating in Ithaca, listened to the Ithaca radio stations. They were so much better than Rochester's. I miss it too. Hope to go visit next summer.
  • Veruca on September 4, 2004
"The Last Unicorn" is one of my favorite movies ever (and I love the book as well)! My pets are all named after characters from it...I'm a loser! But anyway...since I liked the entries you submitted to my contest, I decided to look at more of your work, and I totally loved it. I'll get around to commenting on individual poems when I'm fully conscious, I promise! But I just had to tell you that
    XOXOXO,
    Mandy

It's lovely here if a bit too warm already...broke the 100 mark early this year. I kind of miss having spring, I mean we get a tiny bit of one here...somewhere between the chilly (if one can call 60s chilly) winter months and the blazing summers. I miss lilacs...daffodils...all the flowers the desert would kill. Glad to hear you are well, I think about you and the folks back home often...I am starting school again in the fall for interior design and landscape design and am seeing the most wonderfull guy...7 months already and still VERY much in love. It feels strange to be dating someone I can actually trust...
    Other than that, writing...alot

    Hugs,
    Rom

hey Ro...how you be? i know it's been a long time since i've been around to read your poems, hopefully i can strike more of a balance in life between beading, writing, and raising another child...lol...as if i will ever have any SPARE time... hope you are well. we are in our usual pattern of warmth/cold/rain/fog/clear-and-sunny mixed up Tompkins County weather.

but i heard peepers the other night, while i was driving down a country road in the dark...a sure sign that it really is spring here...now the leaves are starting to emerge from dormancy. hooray for more light!!!

Well if you are interested in some original translated Shijo (Sijo) you should look up an author named Kevin O'Rourke - he is a priest who has lived in Korea for a long time and has translated Shijo into English. One of the books is titled "A thousand years of Verse".

As well, there are other Korean authors who have translated Shijo (but since I am in the process of movingn all my books are packed and it will be awhile unitl I can get their names to you.

I do not know if you will be able to get these books in N. Am., if not let me know and if you are interested I can find a way for you to obtain them.

I checked Amazon.com and then have Shijo rhythms, by Kevin O'Rourke so you can get one of them in N. America.
Edited on Jul 10, 11:29 p.m. because 'information correction'.
  • ecologist on June 27, 2003
Question -- where and how did you learn about (Sijo ==Shijo) which is a Korean form of poetry. While being related to the Japanese Haiku - it actually precedes it by a long period of time and is an offspring of Chinese styles of Poetry.

I did not learn of Shijo until I came to Korea, because outside of Korea it is a rarely known (or studied form) and it makes me curious as to where you learned of it.

That said I do like the poems. Good work.

I had no idea you were from Ithaca. I lived in Penn Yan/Geneva/Rushville/Canandaigua for twenty years. I used to go roller skating in Ithaca. I miss central New York very much too. I am in California now. Culture shock!

  • Kelley on January 22, 2003
oh my freakin lord jesus... :o) ...550 poems! lol...keep going, you're writing is amazing and you're branching in so many directions...it's wonderful.

i was just stopping by to say thank you for your comment on my Disappearing Girl. it was about me...but don't worry, i sometimes feel this way, but not all the time. it just happened that today, a guy acted way too interested in me, when he doesn't know anything about me...and then i couldn't figure out why, until i looked in the mirror, and that just pissed me off. :-[

thanks though, and i'm commenting when i can...hence the randomness of my commenting. i only have time to do large amounts once in awhile, but i'm still trying to keep up. ;o)

    love you and take care,
    Kelley
  • Ava Noire on January 18, 2003

    ~:-)
  • Ava Noire on January 17, 2003
hey :) A website you might like (if you don't know of it already) is shadowpoetry.com. Under 'writers block' (I think) they have a section of 'types of poetry.' has a lot of really cool styles you might like to try. That is where I found a lot of my info ~:-)Also under 'contests' they have a contest open for haiku.

    Take care ~:-)
  • Kelley on January 15, 2003

    love always and forever,
    Kelley

Okay. So, I find myself nearly at a loss for words. You are such a wonderful and empathic writer. So full of life and so willing to share that exquisite energy with all of us. I have known you for years, and I feel I know you very well. So I can say with some authority that you must be the most honest and open writer I have ever known. I hope everyone who reads your work appreciates that about you and understands that with each poem you write you offer up a piece of your beautiful self for all to see. Thank you, thank you my dearest friend and brother. You have given us all more than we thought could be given. You broaden my horizons.

    Adoringly humbled,

    Crabs
