    A Tribute to R S Adams Jr

People tell me I am humble but I'm really just a man
who would rather walk in your shoes or lend out a helping hand.
If you find that you're downhearted or you need to understand--
I am quiet but I'll help you if you ask me, if I can.

My experience in living's taught me that the world is wide
but the gap is not much wider than the friend who's by your side
for we all can bring each other much enrichment when we try
to be honest and not hurtful, to be patient, drop our pride.

Now I live in South Australia and I play guitar and I fish.
I have love of church and country, friends and family I relish.
You can find me at my daughter's where the coffee is delish
and I bake the scones each morning. Me? Retired? Don't I wish.

[this was supposed to sound like it was written in his own voice (2007). I came across it in my papers today and thought guests might like to read it]

It would be like witty Chaucer to put that phrase into the prioress' mouth, come to think of it!

Hi again! No, not on an island. On this part of Lake Michigan (one of the Great Lakes which are as large as fresh-water inland seas) there are no islands. Way up on the northern end there are islands. I adore Chopin too. Our family history is Russian so we tend to like all things slavic. What kind of songs do you sing? I grew up singing "Puff the Magic Dragon" and probably a not very good "Waltzing Matilda". I have translations of the Eclogues and the Georgics but I had no idea that that wonderful phrase was Virgil's. Water-color painting is very challenging. I don't know much about Australian water-color painting, but if if is anything like British watercolor painting it is dynamite.
The best in the world. It's very challenging. Oils are in my opinion easier. But then again I'm a 3rd generation artist. There is some kind of perch that people fish for in the lake here. Supposedly they're absolutely delicious.

They're red-orange under their wings? Wow! How flamboyant! I know how much your economy has depended upon sheep and lambs and I hope someday someone can find some sort of decoy or explanation that can protect those destructive little rascals. And everyone else!

So Mr. Hunt is your ancestor! It's so wonderful
to meet a fan of Keats. What is your favorite poem of Keats, ditto Wordsworth?
  • Purrsanthema on February 14
What do you paint? I'm an artist.

I used to have a pen pal in Australia when I was a little girl. I also had a friend who moved to Australia when I was little. He wasn't a friend for long. I was not allowed to have friends. Which ocean do you live near?
  • Purrsanthema on February 14
I play the piano and the guitar, and sing. What are chooks? Are they fish?

I just wanted to stop by and say Hi! My name is cayla, or as I'm known here stingersinger53. I just entered one of your contest and thought the idea was great so I thought I would come by your page because I don't think I have seen your name or read any of your poetry and I've been here a couple of years now. Hope to hear more from you!
    Hugs!!!

A question, have you ever tried writing a poem with only one word/line, and the sequence of words has to make sense, directly or indirectly. I do this with some of my poetry, for example, my poem "Absurd", which is intended to be considered just that. It's a fun & challenging way to write. I like to call this: "Bare-bones Poetry". Good luck, if you choose to try it.

Vertigo is right. Well, Vertigo is nearly always right. He's a wonder all unto himself. There should be an applause for an Author's Page. Your words are so genuine and so kind. It's a refreshing change from all the publicized agendas I read. Even my Author's Page is a publicized agenda of sorts. You are a fortunate man and a wealthy man to have your fishing spot and your poetry and your friends and your family. I too am retired with disabilities, including a brain tumor. But I am fortunate in that my tumor is non-malignant and slow-growing. That is God's gift to me. It's other issues keep me from working. As I applaud your Author's Page with Vertigo, please also allow me the privilege of applauding your humanity and your incredible, obvious faith.

All my best to you, Toni

Ahhh.... just translated,'Amor vincit omnia' from above. 'Love conquers all.' Of course.... how appropriate!
  • budderfly on April 30, 2006
Yes, I agree completely with Mr.Vertigo... this is a profile page that deserves recognition.... applause would do nicely here. Lots of forethought, pleasant... well put-together, friendly, graphics are a good touch and nice on the eyes.... and that wonderful photo of yourself enjoying your fishing! I will look forward to reading more of your work. Good to meet you, RS...!
    Warm regards,
    Budderfly~

i think if i could applaud someones authors page, i would applaud yours. i see you there by the water, and you look just like my grandfather did when i was little, and even though we are probably relatively the same age.

and there was that little quip of cynisism at the begining of your intro. the way you lead into that. and then you went on.

im legally blind, i play the guitar and piano (well if i had a piano, i know how, lol) but i do own several guitars. i see a reflection of me in you.

i work on the pc alot, writing and doing grraphix i do all my own images here. and ys. im still legally blind.

i write alot of personal philosophies. i dont consider myself a poet so much as a good observationalist, a humorist./satirest.

but i wanted to say i applaud your page. its a good show of personal strengh and faith. and i think alot of ppl here could learn from it.

    cheers.

Thank you for your generous comment about my poem and not to worry and never to compare, you write what you feel and your voice will be just that, your voice! Everyone has a different one and you must just keep using it! It's all therapy ...

  • Ebony on February 15, 2006
Hello, It is good to meet another Christian and fellow fisherman. I too am a spiritual creature that seeks God in all things great and small. Prior to me here as Ebony I was here as Ladybug but in time I lost my password and had to start all over. Fall of the luck after being here five long years and taking a long vacation. Go figure. And no that bloomin thing on top up there does not work where they will email you the password, done tried that round and no luck so on to my new name of Ebony but if you want to try out any of my earlier works now you know where to go looking. I was there since Nov2001. hey! surprised I just now ran in to ya but good just the same. so what type are fish are biting these days? where I live are croppy and big catfish biting now.
take care and keep up the great work in poetry
    see ya soon

Thank you very much for all the sincere and touching comments on some of my more recent poetry. I was amazed to learn your true thoughts on these things and that truly was some of the best motivation I have recieved since I joined this site earlier this year. You have incredible pieces yourself and I see your faith and love in God through the critiques on my poetry. The applause is well appreciated but that wasn't as motivating as the kind and inspirational words you left. Keep the love and faith of Jesus Christ alive and a Merry Christmas to you! Following this is a little poem I wrote for you to comtemplate on if you wish.
Inspired by the faith of others.
I truly see you have loved.
You shine through young and old.
    Lord you will love forever.
