I'm glad that you have some grasp of what you're doing/not doing in your poetry. I find much of this site to still be rubbish (and its poets), though have met a few very decent poets who somehow tolerate this congregation of lackluster poetry (sadly the poets who I did enjoy years ago have left, so now I'm not so sure). As far as my own work is concerned, I won't be posting or sharing any. You wouldn't be interested anyways, as I mainly write in free verse with the occasional (unrhymed) sonnet. I'm in the mindset of folks like W.S. Merwin and James Wright who believed (as least one could assume that they did when one traces the lineage of their verse) that form is necessary to learn, but almost a crutch at some point in the process. That isn't at all arguing against formal poetry, though, simply arguing for free verse as a form in itself. The wonderful thing about formal poetry is that it isn't really as static as it seems. But if your main experiences with free verse are on a site like this, I can understand why you dislike it.

I'm sure that I come across as a pompous ass (which I'm not saying that I'm not), but if you're genuinely interested in improving your verse in any way at all, this isn't the place to do it. The internet did a lot for poetry. There are tons of places like this where people can share their work and make a little community of poets. But the problem lies in the fact that individuals who are generally more serious about their art are already workshopping in college classrooms, sharing manuscripts with other poets in the flesh, or traveling far from computers for more poems. I realize that there are folks who slip through the cracks and can't manage to travel or continue schooling etc etc, but there's a clear divide (for me at least) between poetry as a general term (much like the pure emotion no premeditation you see here) and a more literary focused poetry (which is interested in the craft and quality, not merely one's ability to convey basic emotion).

All that said, I literally hadn't visited this site in years when I commented on your poem and a few others. I was rather drunk and some strange force guided me here in that wonderfully drunken stupor. Sadly, the site is pretty much how I left it, though the poets whose work I enjoyed are now missing. I'm glad that I commented on your piece, though. It's good to see that some individuals lingering around here still care about their craft at all. If you're serious about what you write at all, though, I'd recommend finding another outlet. Either way, I wish you the best of luck.

    (I apologize for the rant)

You liar! I cannot believe you tarnished my Guestbook with your LIES!!! Pfft... Melbournian. You're from the country, Country Boi! *pokes your hardened hair*

Mmm... I'm sifting through my poetry, trying to figure what should be shared, and what should be left in the dark corners of paper. Will post some more this weekend maybe.

    My dear monkey friend
It seems I found an AP Lover
I had to choose one in the end
I’m sure your heartache will recover

    Waiting for my handsome Knight
Sweeping me off my two flat feet
That could be a glorious night
If once we do finally meet

So my AP Snuggelmuffin you will be
An accolade for you to be glee
And in time I think you will see
That only you ring my bell for me!

I'm curious, have you ever read the poet/philosopher: Kahlil Gibran, author of The Prophet. If not there's a couple of quotes from his writing on my authors page, as well as other quotes, and poems written by various poets. I do like your writing and hope to review more of your efforts as I have time.

Hi, welcome to AP. I hope you enjoy your experience here, I certainly have. On my author's page there are several quotes/poems from famous individuals and well known poets, you might be interested in checking them out. I'll keep a look out for your poetry in the featured box. Feel free to browse my works and comment if you choose to do so.
