I saw that your favorite author is W. B. Yeats..I watched the video "Must Love Dogs" last night and this poem by W. B. Yeats was recited by Christopher Plummer during the movie:

"I whispered, „I am too young,
    And then, „I am old enough;
    Wherefore I threw a penny
To find out if I might love.
Go and love, go and love, young man,
If the lady be young and fair.“
Ah, penny, brown penny, brown penny,
I am looped in the loops of her hair.

And the penny sang up in my face,
    There is nobody wise enough
To find out all that is in it,
For he would be thinking of love
That is looped in the loops of her hair,
Till the loops of time had run.
Ah, penny, brown penny, brown penny.
One cannot begin it too soon."

You are probably familiar with this poem..that was the first time I heard it. It was a good movie and I enjoyed the poem. I also enjoyed your poem that I just read in Night Hope's contest...just wanted you to know.

    Maureen

ya know... i read that Rod McKuen poem when i was a teenager in the 70's, i think all of my books by him were normal size paperback and if i remember had photos inside (which was awesome for poetry back then) I should dig one up and have another look all these years later.

Love the poem you display here :-)

Thanks for the comment on 'Homeless Joe'! I just goes to show you, try and take a serious topic and turn it into a humorous piece, and you will fail completely!

Thank you for your comments on my Ireland poems. I love it when they're read by someone who KNOWS. I found the country mystical; it touched me deeply. There will be more poems from that visit, I'm sure.
