The abuse only made me stronger, intuitive and empathetic. It is amazing how we always think of it as what everyone else lives through day to day. I'm glad you can still be so hopeful, you can see that there is still good in this world despite being raised in an environment so harsh. You're a strong beautiful person, and don't ever forget it.

i just read your homepage and it is amazing how our lives parallel each others. I wrote "my story" under board topics, which is mostly about my eating disorder. What I did not write about were the many nights I lay in my room waiting and wondering with fear and anticipation WHAT was going to happen that evening when my father came home drunk, who he was going to hit, how loud they were going to fight, and whether or not he was going to make his way into my bedroom to molest me or not. I agree with you wholeheartedly when you talk about being thankful for all your experiences for it has made you who you are, and I can tell just by the little contacti've had with you on here that you are in fact a compassionate, kind, and caring person. I too, am very thankful for all my experiences and feel that they make me who i am, help me in my career as a therapist and in my dealings with people in general. I have rich and meaningful relationships that are based on compassion, kindness, respect, love, and spiritual connection. I just wanted to write you and tell you that I related so much to you. I related to always wanting someone to adopt me and take me in, always trying to stay overnight somewhere else, always trying to get other grownups to pay attention to me and take me in, and having teachers who I went to; never telling them what was going on, but just hung out with them, silent. But their presense and concern was always so comforting. Having been in therapy for many years and worked through many of the issues, i now find myself dealing with it all again on a totally different level and layer as i have given up the coping mechanism of my eating disorder which has served to keep much under wraps; more than i could have known, as, as much work as i've done, i am surprised to find that yes, there is, yet another layer to be found and dealt with. THat is the process and journey i am on now while trying to recover from the eating disorder. Anyway.......i could go on and on, but just was struck so by your story and wanted to let you know. peace and love to you

condor on August 9, 2008Hi, Patty. Just dropped in to read some stuff. Here in Australia, mammograms are free for women over 50. I've heard talk that it may be lowered. Is that the same in the U.S? I spend my time between poetry and writing, so some times i am not on the poetry section. Hope you are enjoying the olympics. I will when the swimming and gymnastics is on. I just love watching these people perform, regardless of where they're from. Take care friend and sieze the day.
