muzicalquest on February 18, 2008You commented on one of my poems, and every one and awhile I make the effort to view that individual's profile. After reading your profile, I felt compelled to leave a message here.
I am glad that you were able to work through your difficult times - seeing life as a whole entity and not allowing yourself to falter in the greatest times of stress. Indeed, it is quite interesting, the myriad paths humans take through life, and yet, inexplicably, we all arrive at the same place.
From reading your profile, it seems as though you spend a lot of your time writing, reading, and thinking about poetry and human emotion. After reading some of your poems, I thought I should share some information with you so that you may be able to further your poetry writing and develop something that you enjoy and love doing so much.
There is a tool, a poetic device, that Shakespeare (and many, many others) used to achieve a very "poetic" sound to the way they wrote. This is called "Iambic Pentameter" and it is a combination of long and short syllable sounds which may give writing a bouncy feel. Feel free to check it out on Wikipedia, they have a great explanation of it.
You also may be interested in learning about "Sonata Form." I'm sure you've heard of it in music, but the music variation is derived from written word. Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" is a famous example of Sonata Form.
You may or may not have already known about these two devices, they are merely ideas on how differently you may develop your craft so you choose. In any case, I felt obligated to respond to your sobering, and honest story that you have posted in your profile. If you have any questions about what I mentioned, feel free to send me a message.
I wish you the best of luck in all of your endeavors, and encourage you to keep doing that which makes you truly happy.
regards,

Anna Emkah : Hello, I am Anna! on October 22, 2007Hi David, I happen to know your brother Dennis and by accident I figure out that you were the other half of the twin. I am so pleased to know you now too. Like your brother, I also like you a lot after reading your homepage. You have not had an easy life (just over roses) so far, but by the grace of God you managed to be and stay positive. I applaud you for that. I am glad you have joined Allpoetry. Sometimes it's hard in here, but with the right friends you can have a splendid time. Since I have only read the colloboration poem with your brother (the one that got silver! well done
) it's time to read more of your work now. Good luck with your work.
Anna.

To Every Thing There is a Season - Ecclesiastes 3. 1-8
----------------------------------------------------
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
Albert.
