I wouldn't doubt that. But I'd say they looked ahead more. Look at it this way, water would become a fuel. And water would become a resource, but even if the car wasn't destroyed water would STILL become a resource, mainly because of the fresh water supply slooowwlly going away.

And while we're on pollution maybe you can look at your own city and realize what light pollution is as well.
