I can imagine you are an exotic looking human with all the wonderful mixtures of blood you have inside. I am African-American, Native American (Cherokee) and Brazilian. My grandfather (on my mother's side) is from Brazil, his wife, African-American ("Black" is what she prefers). On my Mom's side, Her Mom was Cherokee (deceased), and her dad is Black. Guess we are intertwined some how. LOL I am off to read some of your poetry now. I hope you have an enjoyable weekend.

Almighty Aphrodite : Hail to the Chief! on December 21, 2006Greetings and Merry Christmas (should this be a holiday that you celebrate), my friend. I am sorry to have worried you; I know I haven't been around in a while. I just finished up final exams last week and I've been trying to figure out how to judge my most recent contest. This new AP format has thrown me for a loop. I really need to get to grading the assignments in my classes before all my students start yelling at me again.
I was at first considering leaving the site. For a while, it seemed that not only could I no longer write, nobody seemed to care that I was around anymore. I felt as though I had faded into the background and no one would care if I disappeared anyway. I never made it to actually "leaving". I guess I will stay for a little while longer.
How are you? I haven't seen you much in the days that I have been here. I will get to reading one of your new works as soon as I get my contest judged--or before, if it takes longer than a few hours for someone to answer my questions. I have been working on setting up a new website for my jewelry products as well as getting some business cards made (not to mention my mother called herself holding me hostage for the last couple of days--but that is another story in an of itself, one you won't believe because I don't believe it either. I'll tell you later, when it doesn't seem so ludicrous). I hope you have been well. May the year ahead be one full of light, love and laughter for you.

I, too, am the fifth child...and this only became known to me on Septemeber 13, 2006. I have lived over half my life as a lost child with lost records and suddenly, I have met my birth mother and six of my eleven brothers and sisters. I am on an adventure that is such soulful geneology. I have spoken to the other three and will place a feather, a stone, sweetgrass and sage on our brother who could not wait for them to find me.
I am adding you to my favorites and will go through your writing you have shared as we go along.

For the most part, anything you can perform in three minutes in fornt of a crowd is a slam poem, but as I discuss in my poem "So You Lost The Slam," (which you can find on this site), "experts" have deduced that the "perfect slam poem" is two minutes and 50 seconds long, allowing time to hook an audiences, reach a climax, and resolve everything in a falling action, much like the format of the traditional short story.
