    I want to become the words you breathe
    the things you breathe
    the emptyness you feed
    the anger you breed

    --

    poet laureate
    used to describe meaning
    and an empty laughter
    that circles your eyes
    you knew destruction
    before it bore its tears
    upon your back

    you knew hatred
    before it fed you for years
    and mended the strong-will
    you so easily discarded
    and if oceans were the shores
    you bathe upon
    I would learn to smile
    if only to drink you in
    and render your depression
    a hollow victory

    - an empty conviction

    when words weren't enough
    we'd learn to sing
    and cause the cracks that we feed
    so hungrily, on sidewalks
    sidewalks that lead to nothing
    words that lead to pleading
    if our lives were raindrops
    we'd fall together

    because the sky is not enough to stay
    and the ground holds no shelter
    I soaked you in when I cried
    and I breathed you out when
    I shivered

    --

    you encompass me,
    as surely as your victory
    as surely as your monumental faith
    in nothing

    as surely as,
    the sordid affair we learn to become
    my tears miss you
    as you spread your thoughts on the floor
    my sadness calls for a more resolute
    approximation

    conviction
    aptitude

    I can't spell my life
    without your name in it
    I can't spell anything
    because you're not here

    as strong as the fragrance of a rose
    or the burial of a daisy
    I beckon to cruel waves
    that only draw me to dark answers

    please come back
    the world is only hollow
    when you're not breathing
    through words.
