crisstiena on November 25, 2004I see we share a love of words. That too, is why I'm here.
My life is so hectic at the moment - not enough hours in
a day. Poems to read and poets to meet. I am having a blast!
Anyway, it is nice to meet you (MOM!) and I'm sure our paths
will be crossing willy-nilly from now on.
Blessings ~ criss

BonBon on August 17, 2004Hi
I wrote up instruction on what I did. Since I did a chapbook and two other books here at home. I could not through a vanity press...too much money. So what I have is for the person who is low on funds.
Here they come
Hi
First of all I did a chapbook and decided I could do as good as some that I seen in the
bookstore. I guess I seen CHALLENGE before me.
Products you need.
A good printer. A large stapler( check with office supplies the type of stapler you want.)
A spiral hole punch if you decided to make a larger book than a chapbook. For my
chapbook I used 24 pound paper, bright white. Then for the cover I went to a printer
friend and gave him my idea on a CD and he printed on his laser printer.
I worked in MSPublisher and set my printer up for pages.
Go to the bookstore and see the format for small chapbooks. It will give you an idea how
you want to do your book.
I found 32 poems that I would use. Then you have a proof reader go over it for you.
Decide if you want pictures on the page. I chose a picture I liked on the wall and scanned
just the part I wanted to use. Then on the other page I used a panel of roses. So odd even
or however you want to arrange on each page.
After they are proof read be sure to get your copyright.Send under one title all the poems
you want to use it is cheaper that way instead of one at a time.
Set up your pages and find your font you want to use. Then you are ready to go.
Again I stress check other books to see the format. Decide on the cover, title, dedications
ect.
Then after you have it all together go to small bookstores and they maybe will put out for
sale.
I did one just for fun called Stories From Grandpa Mouse with graphics. It turned out
cute.
It takes a lot of time to put it together, but in the end you feel so proud when someone
pats you on the back and says...Good Job.....or sits and reads your words you have chosen
and cry or laugh or they just sit and relax.
Hope this helps and gives you an idea. Feel free to ask as many questions as you want.
I drove myself crazy until I figured it out.
See Ya Bonnie AKA BonBon
-
Hoosierpoet on August 17, 2004I'll take you up on that, Bonnie! Although I have self-published a few small booklets of poetry through a local printer, if you have any suggestions how to best go about publishing an actual book of poetry, fill me in!!!

BonnieQ on June 14, 2004Interesting, BonBon. I, too, have a banking background: lending officer in Texas years ago. Indeed, writing is liberating! It was my saving grace as a child raised in a very abusive environment. So, I've been writing most of my 60 years.
Now I'm off to read some of your works. Hope you don't mind if I put on my editor's hat in the process.
Love and hugs, BonnieQ
