"Cinderella Was a Dreamer"

The fabric sits just waiting.
My steady hands debating.
The machine hums quietly to itsself ontop the table.

Gently, do I hold you,
And you do as you are told to,
And the needle goes as fast as it is able.

Around all the twists and turns,
It sews neatly with no concern.
And with my scissors I trim off the extra pieces.

Next comes the decorations.
The silver beads and a cloth carnation.
And some little ribbons to sew over the little creases.

Next I do the hem.
Some lace makes a lovely trim.
It's finished and I did it all before dawn.

I hold the dress up to behold,
And the seems, it seems, they glow.
And I rush behind the curtain to try it on.

When I look into the mirror,
It couldnt be any clearer
That the thoughts I thought before just weren't right.

I take off the silly dress,
Without any tenderness.
I can't just turn into a princess over night.

  • Tear drops are so ordinary. They always fall, always down, always in tiny, beautiful droplets and streams. Sometimes in the light you think you see them shimmer, but you don’t.

emvyar says it exactly! How fresh and real, the woman behind these words who dreams! Perhaps it's not ruffles and lace, but blue jeans which really talk! I am looking forward to reading more. ~ Karen
