Shattered innocenceShow poetry

Just call me Lexi. I was born in Guyana on 7 Jan 1984 residing where ever my job sends me. My English teacher, Sir Ron Chichester is the one who cause me to discover at age 11 that I have some sort of poetic talent. He gave us an assignment to write a poem on anything we wanted and I chose to write a poem for my grandmother. After that I found that I only write poems when I am feeling something really strongly, whether it be love, hate, revenge etc. Almost all of my poetry does not have a poem form they follow a poetic story line. Guess you can say I am a fan of free verse . My poems are personal and tells a lot about the kind of person I am and what is going on in my head. I don't express my feelings a lot but my poetry says everything. I am experimenting and learning new things about poetry and a lot of the poems posted on this site are helping me. I also really like reading poetry, some of it I might not understand but I like reading anyway. I hope to someday publish my poems, so whatever writes you read I ask that you spare no insults or compliments when critiquing. If you give me a whole lot of encouragement I will take it as I am actually publish worthy. I know you don't want a bad book on the market so be honest. Love you all and thanks for reading. REMEMBER LOTS OF CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM NEEDED

Thought I would share this with you. This is the first poem I ever wrote at age 11, my english assignment. It is dedicated to my grandmother. May she rest in peace.
THE PERSON I LIKE by yours truly at age 11
I like my mother
I like my father
But most of all I love my grandmother
She is known to be kind
Truly she has a good mind
Whenever I am in trouble
I can count on her to help me out on the double
When I was stung by a bee
She was there by my side tendering, loving and taking care of me
She is like a mother
And I guess that is why she is called grandmother.

SHATTERED INNOCENCE by yours truly
Sometimes I wonder if I could go back
Back to the days when I was younger
Those days when I would have thought war was a candy
Where a broken heart would be an experience foreign to me
To the times when I didn't know the pain that death cause
Maybe to those days of an infant
When mama breast fed me
Now all I ingest is deceit
Back in my toddler days
Grandma was so worried I would break my tiny bones
Add another scar to my already bruised elbows, shins and knees
Why didn't Johnson & Johnson invented band aids to mend broken hearts
Please take me back to times of fairy tales
When the prince awakened Sleeping Beauty with a kiss
When Rapunzel was rescued from the towers
When Cinderella lived happily ever after
I need those days back
Those days of one... two...three red-light, hopscotch, jump rope and blind man bluff
The ages where I was naive and blissfully ignorant
I no longer want to recognize the pain I feel and see
Continually witnessing all this poverty, hatred and war
Sometimes I wonder if I could go back
Back to the days when I was younger
When I had no worries and not a care in this world

A Poet's Call by Haki R. Madhubuti
It has always been easy to get to my heart
There is no other way of stating it,
The best poets are lovers
Are receptacles for pain, joy, injustice and the innocent smiles of children
We trust too easily
We read potential in the countless faces of evil
We carry many wounds
We are often crippled yet some
Heal quickly only to open their hearts to stories our children can see through
The right words can send us on unlimited journeys
The hurt in children's eyes releases fury in our souls and fists
Black girls mistreated hair bring tears
I do not wish it to always be this way
To care too much can damage one's spirit yet
The secret to the longevity of a significant poet is:
We never give up on love, poetry and the smiles of the young

Feel Good About Yourself by Bruce B. Whilmer
Feel good about yourself
Allow your image to improve
Elevate your self esteem
Annoying doubts remove

Negative impressions
Are barriers to change
Find a new identity
Perception rearrange

Feel good about yourself
Adapt a brighter point of view
Initiate the things it takes to make a better you

Attitudes are certainly
Essential to the sum
Feel good about the way you are
And what you can become

This is the best..... The Holy Alphabet... This is Beautiful

Whoever came up with this one must have had some Divine guidance!

Although things are not perfect

Because of trial or pain

Continue in thanksgiving

Do not begin to blame

Even when the times are hard

Fierce winds are bound to blow

God is forever able

Hold on to what you know

Imagine life without His love

Joy would cease to be

Keep thanking Him for all the things

Love imparts to thee

Move out of "Camp Complaining"

No weapon that is known

On earth can yield the power

Praise can do alone

Quit looking at the future

Redeem the time at hand

Start every day with worship

To "thank" is a command

Until we see Him coming

Victorious in the sky

We'll run the race with gratitude

X alting God most high

Yes, there'll be good times and yes some will be bad, but...

Zion waits in glory...where none are ever sad!

I Wish You Enough by anonymous
A Mother and daughter were sharing some moments together at the airport as the daughter's departure had been announced. Standing near the security gate, they hugged and the mother said, "I love you and I wish you enough. The daughter replied, "Mom, our life together has been more than enough. Your love is all I ever needed. I wish you enough, too, Mom"They kissed and the daughter left. The mother walked over to the window where I sat. Standing there, I could see she wanted and needed to cry. I tried not to intrude on her privacy but she welcomed me in by asking, Did you ever say good-bye to someone knowing it would be forever? Yes, I have," I replied. "Forgive me for asking but why is this a forever good-bye?" I am old and she lives so far away. I have challenges ahead and the reality is the next trip back will be for my funeral," she said. When you were saying good-bye, I heard you say, "I wish you enough." May I ask what that means?" She began to smile. "That's a wish that has been handed down from other generations. My parents used to say it to everyone." She paused a moment and looked up as if trying to remember it in detail and she smiled even more. When we said ‘I wish you enough' we were wanting the other person to have a life filled with just enough good things to sustain them". Then turning toward me, she shared the following, reciting it from memory. I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright. I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more. I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive. I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger. I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting. I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess. I wish you enough hello's to get you through the final good-bye. She then began to cry and walked away. They say it takes a minute to find a special person, An hour to appreciate them, A day to love them, And an entire life to forget them. Dedicate this to the people you will never forget TAKE TIME TO LIVE. To all my friends and loved ones, I WISH YOU ENOUGH!

The Flattered Flying Fish

Said the Shark to the Flying Fish over the phone:
"Will you join me tonight?  I am dining alone.
Let me order a nice little dinner for two!
And come as you are, in your shimmering blue.”

Said the Flying Fish:  “Fancy remembering me,
And the dress that I wore at the Porpoises’ tea!”

“How could I forget?” said the Shark in his guile:
“I expect you at eight!” and rang off with a smile.

She powdered her nose; she has put on her things;
She is off with one flap of her luminous wings.

O little one, lovely, light-hearted and vain,
The Moon will not shine on your beauty again

I don't know how many people has seen this poem before but I think it applies to my love life. You see you trust the guy, he makes everything seem all beautiful, you give him your best and then when you least expect you are history. This poem says the shark will have the flying fish for dinner. Hope you like it
