-
By lovers scorned and oft rejected;
From the height of joy to the depths of pain. -
Today you should have faced the truth,
did you take the time to cry? -
Death is but a shadow,
a moments rest in a shaded place; -
As the storm subsides,I find myself standing
in a place of utter desolation. -
I was born in the hills of Eastern Kentucky,
and raised in the woods neith the tall noble pine. -
If I in darkness should ever stumble,
and have not the strength within to rise. -
There's a little country church
on a hill outside of town. -
I'm just a pilgrim on a journey,
traveling through this world of woe. -
When my trials overwhelm me,
and the nights seem far too long -
When I feel discouraged and I'm filled with despair,
my eyes turn toward heaven and I find solace there. -
In my mind I see Him lying in the manger,
just a child but very different in some way. -
Sometime late at night,
as I'm reading God's truth; -
As I walked down the highway,
through a valley lush and green, -
I have traveled many places,
and I heard the ocean roar; -
The black of night shrouds the gate,
guarded by shadow in cowl and cape. -
How did you feel that morning as you watched those towers fall?
-
When we first met I saw the light,
dancing in your eyes. -
I passed your house the other day,
for you were on my mind. -
I wonder why that young men die,
their women cry -
I sailed through life on angry sea,
On torn and tattered sail -
Our cause is just, in God we trust,
It's the all American way.
