A Final Song for Nana

Missing image
~by Gregg Rowe~

(REGALBUTO, Georgette - - nee Francouer)

This day has arrived - - your immortal day - -
I question mortality - -  then the news:
Where words are hard to come by - -  even say - -
Our precious angel leaves this earth too soon - -

Our adopted NANA - - her eyes sea blue
Through pain of aging - - her internal fight;
With her death - -  our world becomes unglued
Our link - - her knowledge passed  through insights

Play late night card games, meals by candlelight,
Exchange womanhood tales - - to see her smile
Her friendship circle will make it alright
My gift to Nana,  'lil of the nile

Last night a tolling bell rang in the skies
Life persists remembering sea blue eyes

On January 3rd, 2005 we lost our NANA suddenly from respiratory failure with no advance warning that she was ill.  Just my little tribute to this wonderful lady who opened her arms to me and my circle of friends over the past six years.  She will be greatly missed by each and everyone of us.

'lil of the nile lily of the nile:

noun:   any of various plants of the genus Agapanthus having umbels of showy blue to purple flowers

    awesome

Your Nana would have been proud to know you wrote such a beautiful tribute to her. A gift for your Nana straight from your heart. Very touching and heart-warming. Extremely sincere.
I am very sorry for your loss and know that your life is more blessed for having known her. I felt like I could almost see her, you force an image without too much description. Very nicely done. Keep up the great work and I hope to get to read more of your writings. Thanks for entering and good luck in the contest.
    ~God Bless You~

this so makes me think of a dear, dear friend of mine... she's actually my ex-mother-in-law
she is still alive... very much so at 71, with a mouth like a trucker
you wrote of card games which is what me and her and my husband do when we get together every week.
this is a good write... it's not soppy... it's straight forward and touching.
i am also very sorry for your loss. your life is more blessed for having known her ... which is how i feel about my friend.

Dear Gregg, Every death leaves our world emptier. I know how much your Nana meant to you and how much you will miss her.
Tonight the funeral services are being held for her and I am praying at this time for your comfort and her eternal rest and peace.
This is a beautifully penned eulogy of simple sincerity and is redolent with your love. Applause.
    Sympathy and regards, Hugh.

I grieve with you for your loss.
You truly have made immortal this woman who touched you so.
And you have done it in a well-written poem that brings tears to my eyes...and I never knew her.
    Thank you.

Very touching. I really liked this piece. I'm sorry about your loss, I know how hard it is to lose someone close to you. I've lost very many. I especially enjoyed this one certain part:

Last night a tolling bell rang in the skies
Life persists remembering sea blue eyes

That was VERY well written and touching. I absolutely loved it. I actually am speechless and touched so so deeply. It was so beautiful. This entire piece was just so unbelievably beautiful. I loved it so so much. Excellent job! This is a wonderful tribute to your Nana. She was very blessed to know someone this magnificent. Great job. If you keep writing, I'll keep reading!

p.s. How do you make to roses? I've always wanted to know!!

    truly moving

A beautiful tribute. I am sure she smiles on you and is glad of heart. She has obviously touched your heart in a most profound way.
Just a little note. "Everytime you hear a bell ring an angel recieves her wings" is from It's A Wonderful Life.
    A truly beautiful poem.

Dear Gregg, I know your Nana will be with you to keep guiding you, just talk to her, she will hear you. She is home now, and what a reunion she would have had Gregg, she is happy.

The last stanza is a couplet to encompass two thoughts: the first is from the film It's A Wonderful Life with the line Everytime you hear a bell ring, an angel has recieved her wings and the second line of the couplet is my persistence with my health issues everyday by remembering her internal battle by looking into her eyes (forementioned in a previous stanza) to bring the connections together. Thanks for the comment on this poem, I really appreciate it and hope that the couplet makes more sense now. Gregg

This is beautiful. And she seems like a remarkable woman. My grandmother had a quick, unexpected death, and its been nearly 8 years since she died...I'm still trying to find the words to say good-bye to her. Even now I look for her in places I know she will never be.

And this made me think of a friend I lost, someone I haven't said good bye to either.

    Good

Very touching. It reminds me of when I lost both my mother and grandmother. The card games is what got me. Very touching tribute. I did feel that some of the thoughts were not quite coherent, you lost me on the last stanza, but otherwise, a very enjoyable read. Thank you for sharing.
