A Mind of It's Own

In peaceful slumber, so my heart did sleep

Tho’ love acknowledged, ne’er given freedom’s reign

To disturb repose, nor garner undue pain

No broken dreams perchance my heart to weep.

Yet how much more to guard the outer gate,

And buttress up the towering walls of stone

Than seek agreement ‘tween my heart, my own

United, sleeping peacefully, contented and alone

Then straight into the courtyard, a single rider’s sent,

Traitorous heart awakens to hear the lover’s longing calls

And whispers gently, see his form, his pure intent

Open up to love implores, break down the towering walls

‘Tis not for destruction, but for love he’s bent

Oh mutinous heart, how swiftly, surely falls.

Author notes

Hi Everyone. I've joined this site due to the urging of Claide, who is like my own son. This was my first attempt at a sonnet and was written somewhat tongue-in-cheek.

Bravo, bravo... Von hit the hammer on the head! This isn't contemporary Old English, this is "Old English". Extremely impressive! I'm excited by the fact you've decided to join.
