An ecstasy so pure and clear
Evokes a wonder, strong and bold --
A passion wrought in molten gold --
Emotion flares to burn and sear.
Eternities will coalesce,
As heartbeats escalate --
While shyly they initiate
The wonder of that first caress.
Poignantly, lips join and kiss --
Minds and feelings mold in bliss.
Tentatively, they explore
The realm adjacent to love's door.
It seems such fiery incandescence
Comes oftenest in adolescence.
Author notes
This is a love poem. Everyone's first kiss leaves a mark on their psyches, whether it leads to anything further or not. This poem has been previously published several places. Also, this is not a strict form sonnet. This is a sonnet but I omitted a volta in line nine, and there is no turn in point of view. Still, it's a sonnet. It's a modified Petrarchean sonnet, since I used a rhyming couplet at the end.

Wow I liked it very much. It seems to have done you some good in the past I feel ashamed to say that I don;t really know what a sonnet is but I'm glad you chose the rhyming scheme you did. Good job and good luck

I am not. I only speak the truth. One of the main traits of puppy love is not long lasting. I guess I am just blunt. but not a cynic, I don't think. at least I hope not

I was kidding you ...

Puppy love indeed. it can be so sweet until it crashes into a firey pit.

Very beautifully written...There is something magical about that first kiss and how we remember it for the rest of our lives...Always subconsciously measuring each additional kiss to that very first one and that magical feeling...Beautifully penned and thank you for the author comments, I always appreciate that.

I agree with Pinhead. And now reading this poem my thoughts went back to my first kiss, oh it was terrible! But the first kiss shared with my first big love is still very vivid in my memory
Thanks for bring back nice memories
Love and peace,

A wonderful piece. I have not been able to write decent love poems for I don't know how long now. It's the tenderness and affectionate truths that seethe from pieces like this that make me sentimental. Unfortunately for me, I must say that my first kiss was pretty sloppy, horrible and not really worth remembering. lol
Come to think about it, I don't think much about that kiss... I try to keep the better ones in mind.
I like this rhyme... it looks like a sonnet, but some of the rhymes are oddly placed and I'm having to wonder if this is a new form. Please, let me know.
Many blessings,

Well done
The hyperbole of the language creates the inner "reality" of the first kiss. Each person exepriences a joy that they consider unique to all human experience. -
i also remember my first kiss and it really felt "magical".

i particularly liked that line. good rhymes, good flow. thanks for a good read.

A very nice poem - everyone remembers their first kiss (or ought to).
I was a bit distracted by the form - it appears to be a sonnet, but it does not strictly conform. I can accept something besides pentameter, but lines 6, 9, 10, 11, 13 and 14 (nearly half the poem) do not adhere to the quadrameter you set up in the first quatrain - this is, to me, distracting.

Beautiful poetry, and a wonderful use of language and vocabulary. The structure was wonder, thank you for you comment as well. Keep writing xXx

Scott Voorhies in my front yard behind the evergreen near my mothers peonies (which have remained a constant love now that I think about it). His lips were very wet and kept my eyes open to watch him. But I was not a teenager - younger. I also let him put his hands down my pants sometime later on. First real kiss - passion kiss was John Krajakowski at Leslie Carmen's Sweet Sixteen Party. Eh it was okay .. things got better as I got older .. still think kissing someone new who you have all those gooey feelings for can happen anytime and feel like the first but I'm a hopeless f--king romantic.
Oh oh oh your poem - especially like the adjacent door thingy. Lovely you captured a timeless moment with sweetness.

"This has been previously published in several places" rather spoils it for me, like snogging a beautiful woman only to read the list of her previous, er, conquests.
The final couplet is indented, promising much and delivering something one already knew: hey - I know girls like this. But tis finely structured, and not bad at all, not bad.
-
Thanks. I remember my first kiss and it really was a mind blower. I suspect that many people will remember their first kiss. It's sort of a rite of passage, I would think.
