Ice Storm

The sound of ice pellets on a frosted window,
as the bare branches snap in the cold,
the warmth of the apple cider makes,
my mind journey to many tomorrows yet to come,
the semblance of springtime invades my mind,
as the  porch light reflects winter's beads,
glittering in the moonlight of the December sky,
the hearth crackles with glowing embers,
creating thoughts of cuddling close together,
we forget for a while the coldness outside.
the fire flickers and creates dancing shadows,
like a scene from Fantasia upon the window pane,
dead leaves frozen upon the leas and meadows,
as the snowbirds fight for their existence,
searching for berries as the ice storm subsides,
a new day dawning brings a winter wonderland,
creating a crystallized  Winter scene postcard.

I really enjoyed seeing through your eyes, the icy chill outside your cozy home. I think that focussing on the senses, as you have done here, is the best way to connect emotionally with your reader. I’m delighted to see that you have done this.

Nice job. Thank you for entering my contest.

I've only seen a winter wonderland in pictures... living in florida I doubt I ever will but your words painted such a lovely vision in my head. Thank you! It's my life dream to experience Christmas in the snow... to go sledding, riding in a sleigh pulled by a horse... and to snuggle by a fire, when the snow's a fallin outside! *sigh*... this was so lovely... what nice imagination it has created for me!!! ***smiles*** God bless you! ~melissa

I really enjoyed this. It brought a soothing feeling to the deepest of my soul. (Yeah, I know that sounded sorta cheesy. Hehe.) It was sort of like how it's like today where I live, only, I don't have any apple cider. But it is pretty darn cold outside. LOL. Well, anyway, you did an excellent job with this. Flow and word usage was wonderful as well as the style of your writing. Keep up the great work.

Beauteous. Although storms can be brutal at times and we are often tempted to always portray them as such, there is a certain loveliness about storms, especially winter ones because they always force me to see a different side to the pristine season. It's not because I was born during this time of year, but because I have always viewed the snow as being my soulmate that I love winter. What brilliant writing you have done here. Take care.

    Many blessings,

    Raven Aurora
