Undefeated Courage

You're so far away, I know
But our friendship will stay, and grow
Your love is unchanging
The memories your name brings
Your heart keeps on beating
Your courage undefeated

The smile on your face says it all
Your tender embrace breaks my fall
The look in your eyes
Tells me you don't wear a disguise
My heart keeps on beating
My courage undefeated

I want you to know that I'll be here forever
Like the shining sun in stormy weather
My friend, continue on your voyage
With your undefeated courage

When you're alone in the cold, I'm there
I'll be strong and bold, I swear
No matter what goes on
Our friendship flows on
Our hearts keep on beating
Our courage undefeated

I want you to know that I'll be here forever
Like the shining sun in stormy weather
My friend, continue on your voyage
With your undefeated courage
My friend, continue on your voyage
With your undefeated courage

Author notes

A song written on 14th May 2002

This was written for someone who had apparently died, but then I found out it was a joke played on us. I started writing this when I thought the person was dead. Bizarre.

I now hate this person with all my being... so this song is obsolete.

For the contest holder:
Back in 2002, I got to know a guy. We were just starting to be good friends when I was contacted by someone he knew that he'd been mugged, stabbed, and died at the scene. I started writing this song in his honour. The next day, when I was in the middle of completing the song, the guy contacted me. He was alive, and had absolutely no idea that me and my friend (who also was his friend) were told that he had died. Someone had played a joke on us. I finished the song anyway, and it became one of my best and most popular. You can listen to it at www.myspace.com/irishlaurarose if you're interested.

This was a great song, I thought your rhyme was good for the most part, though a little bit forced in a couple of spots, but nothing at all major. Good flow and meter, I read this as a bit of a slower song, and I hope that's what you intended. Well written, and good luck in the contest.

    Nicely done!

All friends should be like this... it's a very nicely written poem-- strong and straightforward. The repetition is well done and enhances the read.

    Good luck in this contest!

    Regards to you,

What a great song, i like it...it's very sweet, and very relatable...The repitition throughout really stressed the undefeated courage, which may or may not be understandable to some...anyway, great job and thanks for entering...(you may enter again if you wish)
