My 2004 Memoirs (Sonnet)

Missing image
~by Gregg Rowe~

I think back to reflect on my past year:
My faith was blinding, I had lost my sight--
Mortality I faced -- covered in tears
This year I witnessed my internal light;

Two thousand and four was my year to fight
My inner soul screams: 'Don't open that door'
I yelled at Lucifer: 'You have no right!'
As I laid my head down, began to snore.

Now I've a second chance -- with a new heart,
I tally mistakes; look within my core:
Raise my crystal to friends -- who did their part
By lighting my soul safely, back to shore

With each candle tonight -- I will have lit
A toast to these angels -- sharing their wit.

Gregg, may i offer my deepest apologies for not getting by sooner? I duuno i guess i got too wrapped up in my own crap and forgot its people that are important, not things and places. When I take stock and inventory all the meaningless accumulations acquired over the years, i have to chuckle a bit….what (on earth) am i going to be able to take with me when i pass on? And suddenly friends’ faces come into bright clarity as i remember situation and circumstance, tears and laughter, over and over. And i remember the picture of you on your title page. i remember the courage and strength you’ve lent to me and the wonder of your poems and thank God for you in this quiet prayer. I have gained so much in reading your work, reading your comments, viewing your paintings. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, thank you for blessing us all with the poetry of your life. Have a wonder filled new year of exploration and adventure. Blessings and best wishes, ~richard

All I know about sonnets is that they have l4 lines. This made me think of a thank you note written to some of those who stood with or behind you in prayer throught out last year. Isn't it great to know that He is a God of second chances, and U-turns aren't against His law. Was blessed to read this.

Although i do not know the exact definition of the word sonnet, i enjoyed it none-the-less. It was very... well i don't know the circumstances under which this was written but it seems rather cryptic... perhaps i am just not picking up on the symbolism, though i hope that is not the case because i would like to think i can pick up on that sort of thing. Anway, nice poem, keep on writing.

    Dear Gregg,
It has been a great pleasure to all of us who joined in prayer for you to have our prayers answered and to know that you are now on the recovery road. Your couyrage has been an example to us all and I know I speak for many when I say how proud I am to call you 'friend', buddy.
Now as to this sonnet, we still have to work at getting the stresses to fall on the right syllables but we are getting there. Good luck in the contest and happy 2005. Applause.
    Regards, Hugh.

You are so deserving of this new heart my love. Your faith made it pound within your spirit as if it were genuinely yours from the start. Your consistent strength makes you strong enough for all of so that we know the measure of strength that is needed to fight the good fight. You are a warrior, and I am blessed with your example of love, life, and living. Stay healthy and continue on the path you have now chosen. I love you Gregg and may this New Year add blessing on top of blessing. I pray that you will be able to look back on this year(2005)with the same zeal as the last. Blessings in 2005, SOAR like a great eagle with effortless flight!

    Always,
    Renee

I think this poem is a great way to recap the year, and to put it into perspective so it can take its place in the past and a path can be made for the new year. Let us hope it is a good one. Great sonnet, as always. Happy New Year to you.

    excellent emotional write

A good write in sonnet form on the physical and spiritual struggles of the poet in the last one year, very emotionally expounded. He has managed to regain control of the 'reins of his life's wild steed'that is back on the right track towards a glorious finish in the race-course of earthly-life with soul too back in form and grace and horse galloping in the required pace!He has steered his life's bark safely to the shore and hereafter there would be lesser worries unlike the past year's stormy seas! Many friendly souls too were unanimously reinforcing and encouraging his successful achievements, to whom he is always grateful. The demon of death and suffering has had its reverses right now and God-willingly, life hereafter should have its normal, joyful span and course, of course.

Greg, this is such an honest write. That you faced issues and came through them with the help of friends is just great, however, I do feel that you have put much into any friendship relationship, for the simple reason, you have friends because of who you are and what you are, a wonderful individual with a beautiful heart who has faced his demons and has won the struggle. Your untiring support of those who are faced with the HIV virus and are in great need of that support says a great deal about your inner strength and your empathy for others.
Bless You and may you continue in your endeavours to help others to become as strong in their determination as you are.
    Blessings ~Katie~
