Yellow, Red, Blue, and Gold (a Riddle)

I'm yellow, blue, red, and gold,
Prometheus' gift and very old.
Conquering the world over night
Made me history's most sacred light.
Seen in the ground and up in the sky,
My name to those is an alarming cry.
Also a verb that means to throw,
Gaining velocity helps me grow!

Hrmm... this is part one of that series you completed recently, ja? Though we got the answer, the part about "gift to folks and very old" doesn't make any sense... why would you give this to old people? Wait... unless you mean that this was a gift to people (mythology again! lol I should have seen that) and that it itself is very old. Aahhhh. Well, now that I'm done enlightening myself, let me congradulate yet another wonderous riddle!

Honestly Wendy, i used to be horrible until i began writing them! I guess some form of osmosis happened, and well it wouldn't be too cool if even though i have over fifty, that i wouldn't be good at solving them. I explain some of how i got started with them in the one about "hands" that begins with, "You could find us on a ship." But, why wouldn't you want to be the first to guess, or solve? I could be stubborn and not let guesses count, but that wouldn't be fun which is the reason behind this form, the oldest form of poetry, by the way! Thanks for your comments and see you soon, peace

My problem with riddles is that i always think the answer must be something much more complex that it is.... and therefore, i read way too much into it, when i should go with my initial gut reaction.

    Well done!

Danna, nothing throws you! You are the thrower! lol I like the fact that the lexicon is your close ally, the clearest sign of a good writer, unfortunately, many on this sight don't agree with this; sometimes i am lazy, and am just as guilty and not up to proofing as well (but, I love to look up words). Thanks as usual for your astute input, peace!

    www.onelook.com/?w=*&loc=revfp2&clue=to+throw

I looked for a verb that meant "to throw" and of you check out that page, you will see that "sky" comes up, the definition is: verb: throw or toss with a light motion. That is why I guessed sky. I guess I am just not used to poetic riddles. This one threw me
