Skies gift

The snow fell heavily outside,
                   The high rise buildings,

And in every corner of every inch of the sky,
               Fireworks exploded,

    Painting the skys
            with its celebration,
                      Hiding the stars.

She sat at her window,
Misting the pane with her breath,
watching the midnight sky unravel its beauty,

   Before her eyes.

Like it was a special show,

         Just for her,

                   A gift,

          Heaven blessed.

And in that moment,

            She knew she was safe.
She knew,
             She was no longer alone.

And she wasn't,

the patter of tiny footsteps came closer,

There stood a skinny six year old,

Fringe hanging in her eyes,

A cotton nightie loosely hanging round her body,

A scruffy,
            old,
                     loved,
                                       brown bear,

gripped in her tiny fist.

'Mommy'
       she asked
'Why is it so noisy? i cant sleep'

She picked the child up with both her hands,

and sat her on the lap,

 She stroked her daughters hair,

And they shared the skys gift together,

and she whispered.

       'People want to celebrate,

The lessons they learnt,

and the times that have passed,

In the last year,

         They like to look back,

and think,

       My hairs longer,

My eyes are greener,

       I'm a little taller,

and Just a little stronger.

         Then last year.

It makes them happy.

        Because they're so much better,

and they look forward to the new lessons,

        and wonder,

How will they be different,

        next year?

And they know,

        That they've made it,

another year.

         their happy,

Because they have friends and family,

         and their happy

and they share their gift of life'

when she looked down,
               She saw her little girl,
head resting against her chest,

Small soft eyelids shut,

  Her sweet scented breathe,

deep and slow,

       She held her close.

Thinking about her wonderful gift,

and how they'd grown that year.

she kissed the top of her daughters head.

Shut her own eyes,

Together,

They inhaled and exhaled,

As one.
