Are you really there?
Have I, all this time,
Not noticed you?
Were you trying to make me see
What was just out of site?
I did not mean to block you,
I wanted so badly to have you.
Deep inside you are there,
And always will be.
But physically you are gone.
I did not mean to neglect you,
I wanted nothing more
Than to hug you tight,
Play with your hair once more,
And smell your scent.
I did not mean to miss you,
I wanted to see you when you came.
You stayed in the background
And remained a silent spectator
While I kept on living my life.
So much has changed since we last spoke,
My being has shifted away
And become something new.
I know you noticed me even if I...
Even if I didn't notice you.
Now that you have gone away
I want to tell you I love you,
I want to smell that scent
And glow in the light of your love.
I adore you as you adored me.
Have I, all this time,
Not noticed you?
Were you trying to make me see
What was just out of site?
I did not mean to block you,
I wanted so badly to have you.
Deep inside you are there,
And always will be.
But physically you are gone.
I did not mean to neglect you,
I wanted nothing more
Than to hug you tight,
Play with your hair once more,
And smell your scent.
I did not mean to miss you,
I wanted to see you when you came.
You stayed in the background
And remained a silent spectator
While I kept on living my life.
So much has changed since we last spoke,
My being has shifted away
And become something new.
I know you noticed me even if I...
Even if I didn't notice you.
Now that you have gone away
I want to tell you I love you,
I want to smell that scent
And glow in the light of your love.
I adore you as you adored me.
Author notes
This was written for my Uncle Tony. We were pretty close, but he died many, many years ago. I've just been thinking about him a lot lately.

We all take the people we love for granted, but no matter what... they always know that we love them. This is an excellent piece. It's a great reminder that we shouldn't take loved ones for granted.

Nice story. You are a very thoughtful person now, I suspect, even if you neglected Uncle Tony back then.

My first name's Erin. Wolf is actually my nickname, I got it at work. LOL! Either one is fine.

I wish I knew your first name. I like to be able to call my friends something, and I don't want to call you Wolf. LOL
You are an amazing writer, and the intensity with which you write is overwhelming. Whether it's one of your adult stories or a poem to a beloved uncle, your writing is remarkable.
This poem is so beautiful that I can feel the love you have for your uncle and for his memory. What an amazing tribute to one you adored. Hugs, Patricia -
one never really knows what one is missing until it is sadly taken away. the worse felling i supose, in any case, is shame-or guilt. no matter how much you try to shake it off...but do not worry for that key to peace is somewhere. you need to find it and turn it. uncle tom will always live in you, and most importantly in your happy memories. do not worry. i am sure he knows and died knowing how much he meant to you. very well written and i can very well see how much you miss him.

this is a really touching piece. it's always amazing how a poem like this, that is so personal and meaningful for one person can have the same effect on a total stranger. this is a great poem, andi know that he knows about it.

Terrific
That's because he's been around lately. In our dreams and daydreams they come and visit. Leaving these little impressions for us to find. This is one terrific poem. Keep up the great writing. Take care and God Bless.
