Stay safe

Stay safe
Be careful
The war is a very dangerous place.
Blood shed and death
Almost everyday
Have your wits about you
Because I couldn't stand if I lost you
Baby, I love you
And I hope to see you when your time is up
When you get to go home
And I can hug you tight
Cry in your arms
Say that I love you
That moment is what I look forward too
That gets me by everyday
And the love we share
Your letter home makes me cry
I want to let go
But I have to stay strong
For you and me both
When I talked to you on the phone
You sounded so worn out
So worried
So scared
But you said you were fine
You're my brave solider
Fighting for a purpose
Fighting for my freedom
Baby, stay safe.

Author notes

Well, my boyfriend, who died recently in a car accident, was going to the war in a few weeks. I wrote this awhile back. I couldnt say what I was feeling, so I wrote it down. My Dad is also being shipped off to go and fight. I'm so scared.

God bless all of the soldiers and their family and friends. They're the ones who should be honored in this country.

This truly brought me to tears. That's what we get when we only get to see the title. I'm so sorry that you lost the one your love. Hold his memory tightly, and you'll get through it with his love.

God bless your father and your family. Many do not understand the sacrifices of families. God bless you for writing this to remind us. Hugs, Patricia

You've written a really good poem here, genuinely charged with the emotions of love and worry, which so often go hand in hand. I so hated to see in the comments that he died in the accident. I once read about a soldier who wrote home saying he thought it was much easier being where he was than sitting home, always being afraid for the loved one. Your poem reminded me of this. As for the structure of the poem, I found it easy to read and kept my interest throughout. It has a good flow to it. I think you have a very good write here, and should be proud of it. I know it must have been painful for you to write this. Thanks for sharing, and I hope things are better now. ~Weldon

You have indeed sacrificed much and not only to war. If you believe if God, you need to pray. I pray for our troops every day. Prayers are going up from many people from many countries. Bless you, you've been through so much, and I truly love you for giving so much. Hugs, Patricia

I have two family members and a close family friend overseas right now, and one friend, Zach, was already sent back when his humvee hit a roadside mine, I know how you feel, Its hell everyday knowing your friends are putting their lives on the line while you have to be content with sitting back and doing nothing, this was a good poem and I can really connect with it, and Im sorry about your boyfriend and hope the best for your dad, all we can do is give them our love and support.
    P.S. Have a Merry Christmas
