Candles Are My Angels

Missing image
~by Gregg Rowe~

My Christmas poem dedicated to all my ~allpoetry.com~ angels who were there for me whenever I called upon them the most.

These friends were complete strangers in my life --
As they beared witness to my daily pains
My illness does not change -- try as I might --
This dis-ease will become my claim to fame.

My friends are angels -- candles in my nights
Energized by joy with powerful rays,
My dark path lit by their love and white light --
And comforting wishes for better days.

Within my heart, I've kept these candles lit
Practicing my faith -- they never go out,
Their words of empathy, wisdom and wit
Prevents doors opening for any doubt

Through friends penning, -- I gain strength back in faith
And angel wing kisses release my pain

Author notes

I am appkying with the above poem to be in your AP family. I would like to be your pet dog, cat, or even goldfish. It I cannot be your pet, I will accept the position of brother since my gender and sex makes it completely impossible to be your sister.

As I did my traditional ride of coming to Ottawa to be with my friends during this holiday season, and again, being chauvered, it gave me the opportunity to pen this during the four hour ride down and think of all the friends I have had the opportunity to journey this road with. Thank you my angels here, for the precious memories and poetry -- wisdom and wit. I love each and every one of you and with all my heart and wish the best to you, your family and all your friends. This year, say hi to a stranger, you never know who you are going to meet. Gregg

This is the poem I was going to suggest to Patricia, and to be open the poem by Ed Peterson was also incredibly well written for its images and in a style that I am still not altogether used to. As for this entry, it has a breathtaking beauty. I have not read any of your work but it seems as if you sure know how to write well. This was a well deserved gold- well done

I too have found some good friends on this site (I've found a nut or two also, lol) so I can identify with this fine tribute.

I would suggest "bared" in line 3. That isn't a critical comment, just an observation.

But this is a fine tribute.

Dear Auntie Bonnie It is amazing the cosmic force that sometimes reaches out to us. I am thinking last night of entering this poem in this contest, trying to find the right one with the right words wondering if it truly fits the criteria and think of my family 200 miles away. And the first critique I receive is from you, which is quite coincidental because my Auntie Bonnie and I have recently re-connected and I just smiled when I saw the signature. Full circle cosmic force. Thank you Auntie Gregg

A very loving tribute to your friends here. I think it is most true that good friends can be like candles in times of darkness. Especially when dark times never seem to end. As I am all to often prone too. Thanks for sharing, Merry Christmas

Heart-felt and full of warmth and compassion. It's amazing how you came form such an emotional bond with someone through a series of pixels and electronic data. This is a wonderful friendship ode, and you pull off the rhyme nicely.

    Dear Gregg,
Not the disease, but your spirit, your courage, your endurance, your writing (and, maybe your painting) will be your claim to fame.
This message could only have been penned by Lordoftherings
as it is another unique testament to the utterances that spring from your soul. Again, I applaud you.
Cheers and happy Christmas, buddy. Regards, Hugh.

    heart-felt

thanks for sharing this heart-warming poem...

i clicked on it because i loved the title - it is very poetic and evocative...the language in the poem is different from the language in the title, & that was a little disappointing, but hey, i'm a hard man to please...

my favourite line in the poem has to be the final one; i wish there were more like it sprinkled throughout the poem as it is very evocative. i guess my bias lies with evocative language in poetry, rather than statements, but sometimes i don't know what i'm talking about, so please forgive me for my critical review.

And angel wing kisses release my pain

i wish you all the best over christmas,
    myron.
