Christmas In Heaven

The news this morning broke my heart,
so many of our brave soldier have died,
a mortar rocket hit the mess hall,
I prayed to the Lord as I cried.

Many fathers, mothers, daughters,sons,
will be in Heaven on Christmas day,
families are left with broken hearts,
the war has taken their loved ones away.

Families will not have a merry Christmas,
the little ones will not understand,
their loved one lie dead on the ground,
all alone in a far away land.

God be ready they are heading home,
climbing the stairway to Heaven above,
they gave their all God, for eternal life,,
please embrace them with your sweet love.

My heart can feel their loved ones pain,
Lord, many tears will be shed today,
I cannot have a merry Christmas this year,
while fine soldiers are killed every day.

Lord protect these brave men and women,
I pray for a peaceful end to this war,
they sacrifice their lives for freedom,
I don't want these brave soldiers dying anymore.

Author notes

This was written for all our fine men and women in the military. My heart goes out to the families of the wounded and dead. This was a senseless cowardly act. Dear God welcome these brave soldiers let them rejoice in your love till they meet their loved ones someday in Heaven. God Bless our troops

    good write

Yes, you are right. I didn't want any of them to die and opposed this foolish and counterproductive war from the beginning. My poem, Where Blow The Winds Of War, has been up on the Grandmothers Against War website since before the totally unnecessary invasion of Iraq. I want the soldiers to come home as soon as possible and no more to die. I applaud your sentiments and hope that you still have a Merry Xmas since you are doing all you can in your own way, and that's all anybody can do.

I don't either. Please God protect all of them, Luke in particular, but all of them nonetheless. Thank you for writing this and calling attention to this sad time for the families and the stressful time all of the families of men and women in uniform over there are having. God Bless.

this is awesome! this is very heartfelt and bittersweet. war is a horrible thing...it's fought by men and women who shouldn't have to carry out the problems of our leaders of the world. your poem hits home here as well (my friends sister is in the air force) and we are all very worried about her. war is hard...especially at this time of year. in any case...you write very well.

Ann, Thank you so much for the wonderful comment. I was not inspired yesterday when I heard this tragic news right befor Christmas. All I could think of were their loved ones in grief. I could not write yesterday I was so depressed over this. But today I got mad at this senseless killing in a mess hall. I worry about so many iof my grandson's friend from his outfit that are over there. He may go this coming year. I will go crazy if he does. I will need God more then ever. Thank you for listening Ann. Take care my friend, Sandy ;f

Oh Sandy, this is so sad! I hadn't heard. I haven't had the TV or radio on because I've been so busy with other things. Goodness! Thank you for bringing this to my attention. This sure makes you really think about putting thinhgs in their proper perspective this holiday season and really being thankful for those non tangible things we have. Like family, friends and freedom. You are such a compassionate soul!
