Do you remember my love?

Missing image
Do you remember the day we wed so long ago?
how happy we were, on our wedding day.
The love we felt as we stood side by side.
Our eyes would meet as we declared our vows
to love one another the rest of our lives.
Our family gathered around wishing us well
then came the banquet, what a feast we enjoyed.
saying farewell as we ran out the door,
how excited we were to begin our new life.
children we had, a girl and a boy
our son looked like you my love.
Our daughter you adored, you called her poppet.
The years passed by quickly, our children grew,
married, had children of their own,
how proud we were to watch them grow tall.
It seemed no time at all.
We sat by the fire on a cold winters night
do you remember my love?
I do.

    very nice

what alovely way to remember your life after marriage very well written

  • Just dreaming... but such wonderful sentiment. There aren't many people these days that stay together to reminece(sp) such a long and happy life. This is a beautiful portrait of lovers' lives well lived. I love the conversational quality of the piece When poems aren't written in a conversational manner they seem more personable to me. You definitely deserved the gold in this contest!

Some people still live long and happy lives together, my Aunty Joan known on here as angelica have been married for 47 years, still very happy together.

      • That is a long time together. And I always get a warm and fuzzy feeling when I see a couple that you know has been together for a long time 40+ years. It's just so heatwarming And by the way the "aren't" in my first comment should be "are"... I like poems with a conversational quality! lol

This made the front page spotlight, cool huh. Just thought I'd let you know in case no one mentioned it.

We all dream, even middle-aged clowns who know better than to venture into such mists.

Lets see if it'll let me applaud again, sometimes it does.

Hi Yem, I didn't know it made the front page spotlight, I haven't been on much, I was wondering why I had so many comments on this, does it mean someone featured it for me?

I assume being on the front page spotlight would be why you got so many comments. But sure someone might have featured it, but I found it on the front page. Hey, I saw my comment here that is dated back in 2005.

Heaps of comments going back to April too, can't understand it, someone must've featured it back then too. Where do I find the front page?

Lovely moments of reflection. It seems those special times of watching our family grow puts another wrinkle on our brain so that we will be able one day do as you did in this poem. Best wishes in the contest!~vj

I love this - except the grandchildren this could be me and my husband. (35 years married) All those wonderful stages of a happy life together you captured them all. My husband and I laugh about our aches and pains these days too

Best of luck in the contest.

Damn, life goes so fast. And often we're caught up in it and forget that we need to stay in contact with that soul mate. This almost reads as if your significant other has died (and excuse mt indelicacy if he has) and I guess in one way or another, it is a death. Maybe a symbolic one but memories are past experiences and only live as such, which is a death in a way. A melancholy but wonderful poem that has more than one layer to it.

Thank you for the wonderful reminder

The best memories as carried within for all time, sotred in such a special place called our hearts. There are times when we loose sight of the important things, but the special times will never be forgotten. Your heart felt poem is a great reminder that we should not get caught up int eh rat race of life and enjoy the special time so that they will never be forgotten. Thanks for a wonderful poem
