The Sound of Silence

I have often thought,
that those that can hear,
are missing essential ears.
For they speak to me of silence:
gold and pure,
quiet and serene.
To myself I wonder,
how can they miss,
the cacophony of sound,
found in every silent drop?
For silence speaks of anger and tension.
between a warring family that refuses to talk,
silence speaks of wonder and joy,
in the gentle smile of a mother holding her newborn baby,
silence speaks of a never-ending empty sorrow,
in the souls of those seeking their missing peace.
Silence is noise,
in every shape and form.
I fear for the deaf,
who must never sleep in the booming, roaring, thunder of their everyday silent world.

    NICE!

NICE! I hate to say it (only becuase it makes me look dumber and more oblivious to the obvious =P) but this poem taught me alot about appreciating silence. But I imagine that was also a goal of yours by posting this. Keep it up!

I really like this and I know what you mean with the tension thing. Silence is not always a good thing. Silence can mean a bad relationship too.

    profound

I liked this very much so Silence plays a major role in our lives, and there is an amount of silence that we need..Sometimes we need silence to hear our still small voice and reflect on our existence. I like this so much

oh wow! it's funny how someone can take such a simple concept like silence and turn it into something HUGE. these are things that we sometimes consider and then forget about...i'm glad that you took the time to remind us.

    7.2/10

Creativity: I thought the ending was terrific. However, I also think you could cut a few words so my imagination could be better evoked. 7/10

Innovation: This is pretty standard stuff. I don't think you are really exploring new territory. 5/10

Technique: Very nice. I like your use of contradiction. And you show a keen awareness of what you want on the page. 7/10

Readability: Aside from the fact that I found this verbose, I believe this reads well and that you are easy for my attention span. 8/10

Emotionality: I got chills running down my spine. Wow! This kind of reminds me of Ian Curtis. 9/10

wonderful piece about the amazing power of silence, how it can sometimes describe or depict very much more than words itself and the lines
    "Silence is noise,
    in every shape and form.
    I fear for the deaf"
really push that point forward. once again, a great write!

    Great flow, feel.

I enjoyed the flow. I think it would be cool for you to elaborate. To run with this idea, run, run,

Cool write. I had to click it in the featured box because the title clicked instantly with the song. I can hear those words without thinking "the words of the prophets where written on the subway walls and tenemant halls, and whispered in the sound of silence."
Still, very cool descriptives. Silence isn't something that's easy to put into words, fun stuff. keep it up

Oh wow...such splendid imagery. I love all the possible meanings of "missing peace"; very clever wordplay. Silence truly is loud - painful sometimes - it's a lot like loneliness.

AWESOME. I have always felt that silence is the most deafening noise of all, for it pounds in your ears and head and heart like no other. I also often think of how horrible it would be to be deaf. You wrote this so perfectly, I can't even think of the right words to praise it. Wow. I am awed. Excellent job.

This is beautiful. Not being able to 'hear with our ears' sure puts a different spin on the world, and it's hard to know which is more correct. Your poem has made me interested in wanting to explore famous deaf people to see how they have interpreted the world- especially deaf scientists, and psychologists...the popular public ones are of course muscians...so I'm interested in others. Thanks for writing suchh an interesting poem.

    Excellent

This was such a clever observation...Indeed ..is silence golden? Perhaps silence to a deaf person is not the silence we know and understand.....I enjoyed this very much.one slight error if I might make so bold...."For the speak to me of silence: should I think be "they"? Great write
