I see him lying there upon that cursed tree
I wish there was something I could do
But as he told me before
It was His father's will
For Him to die
Just thinking of it
Makes my heart sore
That he would die
For a wretch
Like me
I remember the day I first saw him
When He healed that blind man
Right there and then
I believed that he was the one
Sent from God
He doesn't deserve this painful death
But He says that He should die so we can live
My mind doesn't understand
It can't comprehend His love
His fatal words He speaks
all can hear
They are, "it is finished"
Tears flow
Cold and hard
As the wind blows and the earth shakes
My mind is filled with many thoughts
But I am at peace
For one thought overpowers all
It is
Thank you Jesus for giving your life
for mine

An enjoyable write...
An enjoyable write; love the subject matter; nicely done. This reminds of some poems of mine - perhaps you would like "Silent Tears" and "Spiritual Irony" (which parallel the theme of your piece). -
This is wonderful and powerful. Praise God to those who glorify his name. My favourite part of this biblical recount is that as he breathed his last the earth shook and the curtain was torn in the room of the holy of holies. I can't believe that even after that, many still held that he was not of God. You wouldn't guess I am a Christian under this name, but I have alternate IDs. Thank you for sharing such an awesome tribute with us.

Lovely powerful poem. I like the part 'just thinking of it makes my heart sore.' That's exactly how I feel about it, well done!

Wonderful
This so perfectly sets out how everyone that day, who knew Christ, must have felt, Rose. I know I feel it everytime I think of Christ being so horribly treated, that it brings tears to my eyes when someone says they believe yet don't need Him. How do they ever deal with the travesties of life, such as the loss of a child or spouse. Been there, done that; and, had it not been for our Saviour lending me His strength, I would have been bound in a blue straitjacket and confined to a pink padded cell. God and His Christ are sooo awesome.
Good luck in the contest! Love and hugs, Bon

I had only just earlier said in the last poem comments about how grateful we’d probably be if someone had saved our life and gave up their own in the actual process of doing so. And here your poem has beautifully relayed this thought for all yet again. It must have indeed been a dark and over powering day that very day. The thankful praise at the end of your poem truly speaks a lot of thoughtfulness indeed, for we ever often tend to say thank you to God, more so for his Son. Truly a deep and reaching thought for all who read this one, thank you sincerely my poetic friend. God Bless you

And what a gift it was. I know it's difficult to understand. I know I can't. My heart isn't big enough to comprehend that much love. This is a beautiful piece. Good luck in the contest. Hugs, Patricia
