It's been a few weeks since I wanted to sit down at my computer and send you a cybermail. A friend of mine approached me last week, hurrying to get her Christmas shopping completed and asked me in a harried voice: 'What do you want for Christmas?'
Perplexed, I looked at her over my bifocals and never responded, and today I just realized why. I do not wish materialistic things to be placed under my tree this year Dear St. Nick. No not at all. Even though I may have a need to build up my computer software or equipment, a photo printer is high on my list, or a new sweater to go skiing would be nice, but then I relinquished these gifts to ask for something special.
I ask that you send a letter to my mother, wishing her seasonal greetings and telling her that I have always loved her, through all our trials and tribulations. I ask that she is given a few more years of life, so that --without being selfish-- we can continue our road of recovery and discovering the uniqueness of each other. I ask that she continues to use her newly discovered sense of humour, it is always touching to my heart to hear her laughter once more after being silenced all these years.
At the same time St. Nick, could you please assure me that my friends will be safe and that they will prosper in the forthcoming years. Not in materialistic ownership, but in being in touch with themselves and the world around them as we are continuously closed in with media images that are disturbing. Underneath, there is a diversity of the world that needs to be experienced and explored and if we are bombarded with as much positiveness in the world as we are in negativeness the balances of the world would change for the better of mankind.
I know that this is a tall order to fill St. Nick, but I do believe in you as I believe in the angels that surround and protect me in my world.
I know that what I ask is quite abstract, but energy delivered around the world comes in many forms. And if we just circulate this letter around, the energy will emerge. Please say hi to Madame Pere Nick and please don't drink and sleigh, I don't want you running into any clouds, you would break them open and then the world would cry on Christmas Eve.
PS: The scotch is in the cabinet beside the fireplace. Please use the crystal tumbler with your name on it.
Gregg
PSS: I have been an especially good boy this year.

heartfelt, well written
I really like the picture of St. Nick and baby Jesus. I also like that yours is not a "gimme" list for yourself but a heartfelt wish list for your mom.
Congrats on your winning the silver! Merry Christmas!

This is a wonderful letter that you have written here.
It's great to read how you thought about your mother and friends inspite of all of the material things that you need in life. Family is the most important part of life. Great to read that you keep them so close to your heart! Thank you for your entry in my contest. I wish you the best of luck with it!

good job
This is an excellent letter to St. Nick, and you've handled it very well. I certainly can't see that there's a lot you could do to improve on this. It may not "be your best work", as you told somebody above, but it seems pretty good to me. Thanks for entering and good luck in the contest. -
Oh geez, I realized I missed some... So I'll be catching up later today. But this is cute Gregg, I hope your holiday wishes come true, for they are wonderful and selfless. I loved the line about the scotch
Wonderful write my friend

This was amazing. It was so touching. I have always felt like this but I am young and I'll admit, christmas has been all about the magic and presents. As I grow, I want more than material things. Your a good person, this poem shines

Hey Heart: Thanks for being my spell check on this one. It's not my best writing though these thoughts of my mother and friends have been surfacing over this season's holidays. More than anything in the world I just want them to know that I love them and care for them.
-
hey from the second paragraph..."I have always loved here" i think you meant her..
i laughed at the last two lines...i guess they were to be a towel for the tears from the rest, beautiful sentiments dahling. like the man who wrote them.
