Queen of Sonnets (Spenserian)

The greatest tribute teachers can receive
is students' mastery of what they teach;
instruction's not just words, we must believe
that future grasp can overtake their reach.

That Mary6 excels is not mere speech,
she's known for sentiment and lovely verse;
her depth of understanding gives to each
response from every reader, few averse.

Her talent is increasingly diverse,
as other forms than sonnets fill her mind,
and now she takes her freedom interspersed,
expressing feelings not to be confined.

She's clever, wise, and always soft of word,
though others know the crown has been conferred.

    Well, I finally came across this poem and I must say that I am impressed. This is a beautiful dedication to an excellent poet. I couldn't have said it better myself. Excellent job.

    Wonderful tribute and in a befitting form as well for one of the most talented poets who is such a natural sonneteer.Both of you have mastered the difficult art of IP so well. I stand up and applaud your wonderful effort.

    Thanks Tom. I am often amazed by Mary's work, her turn of phrase is very beautiful. She also has a very gentle way, and it is always a pleasure to receive a comment, as Scott said above. I'm happy that you feel this is the tribute she deserves.

    Holy Macaroni Margaret! This is utterly beautiful,and utterly true as well.Your skill with the pen leaves me utterly breathless!As you know Mary is my bestest friend in the world,and before THIS sonnet I don't believe that I would find any tribute worthy of her,that's how strongly I feel about her as not only a writer,but especially as an incredible human being.But you have proved me to be wrong with this outstanding piece,this IS certainly worthy,I am just awestruck!

    Margaret -
    I have long admired the work of Mary6 and I cherish the comments she has made on my own work. This is a lovely tribute to a woman I believe to be one of the most outstanding writers on this site. I am happy I came to read this.

    Thank you Del, yes, Mary is definitely a poet of rare talent. She joined AP about a month after I did, and we discovered a love of sonnets together. She has a natural understanding of iambic meter, and very quickly mastered it.

    wonderful tribute

    My own local vernacular made me want to pronounce "mastery" with only two syllables, but even that did not detract from this lovely and heartwarming tribute to Mary6. I have read most of Mary's work, commented on a few, and loved it all, and your tribute sonnet is spot on, well deserved and a feather in your own cap for having learned so well. I am genuinely envious of the tallents of both of you.

    Blessings,

    Del

    Excellent

    Mary6 seems to be kind, compassionate and VERY talented. It is only fitting that you hold Mary6 is such high regard as she rightfully so also holds you in high regard and I hold you both in high regard and see TWO Sonnet Queens.
