Winter Garden

Missing image
In winter's cold and sparkling snow,
The garden in my mind does grow.
I look outside to blinding white,
And see my tulips blooming bright.
And over there a sweet carnation,
Softly scents my imagination.

On this cold and freezing day,
The Russian sage does gently sway,
And miniature roses perfume the air,
I can see them blooming there.
Though days are short, my vision's clear.
And through the snow, the buds appear.

In my mind, clematis climbs,
And morning glories do entwine.
Woodland phlox and scarlet pinks,
Replace the frost, if I just blink.
My inner eye sees past the snow.
And in my mind, my garden grows.

I, myself, was not blessed with a green thumb, but my mother and sister both do wonders with flowers. In my mind I can see your beautiful garden. I always loved clematis, phlox, and morning glories (which mom loved as long as they didn't grow too close to the vegetable garden.) Thank you for that wonderful walk down memory lane. Hugs, Patricia

Awesome Cheryl, I wish you’d make your new one’s show on your profile too my friend, remember I’m an old codger here bad eyes and all, diminishing mind too. Like the snow in your winter poem here, I could be gone after winter is over?

Serious this is another treat and pleasure to read young lady, awesome truly.

Magic Lady at her finest. She made my winter gloom disappear. What a pretty picture you painted in my mind's eye. This is absolutely delightful to read.

    Sincerely,
    Leo Long
ps. I could have used a slightly dark font color to help these old eyes see it better.

Oh my goodness Cheryl you have spoken straight to my heart. The snow is lovely to look at but me, well as soon as it gets cold, I start longing for spring. This is outstanding and I love the imagery you've written into this. Beautiful job on this one!

OH! I like the way you think! Something so stark and cold as winter becomes a garden, blooming, no less! And it's all in sync...the poem's rhyme and meter, timely and lovely. You've scented my imagination, too. Wouldn't some spicy carnations be so lovely at this time of year, like the ones that ripen to such exotic perfume in the summer time! Thank you for the garden bouquet. So cheery! I would love to give this applause, but I'm out.

    Beautiful

My father's favorite passtime in winter is poring over the seed catalog. The gardener's frustration is placated with brightly coloured dreams. Your verse is very lovely, Cheryl, I sympathise. I noticed a typo in "carnation".
PS the gray on gray background and text are so wintery! Brrr.

This is wonderful Cheryl. I love the images your words paint across my mind. Since we don't get snow here, I don't really mind winter so much. 90 miles one way and I can be in the snow... 90 miles in the other direction and I'm laying on the beach! Good luck in the contest Sweetie! I enjoyed the pictures as well.
