The leaves of the trees above her
Spread out to form a roof above her head
The sun, she knows, is high in the sky
And yet only shadows show its presence
The thick wood blocks the light
The brightness of the sun cannot invade
The dark peace of the world beneath the treetops
And she walks the familiar path
Her only light the touch of sun that shines through
Exposing the wood just enough to make it through
In the wood she is safe
Safe from the blinding lights of the world
From those who want nothing more
Than to find out all her secrets
They want to use her
To find her truth and use it as lies
Nothing is safe from them
But there in the shadows of the wood
Everything is hidden
Everything is safe
The darkness absorbs her darkness into itself
And beneath the trees
She finds herself
One with her truth
She is at peace
In the shadows

I used this idea once in the past, but I like it adapted like this more.
