Outside Looking In

The best windows in town
reflected his ghostly face
and ragged lapels creased
over stained white shirt;

deflecting liquor breath,
street stench and evening
damp cascading from the
tops of clear glass towers
over the rounded shoulders
of his forgotten frame.

From the street he savored
the acquired taste of their
privileged ambience;
their distilled essence
swilled through gold
rimmed glasses.
