On Roland's Arrival at The Dark Tower (WARNING, THIS SPOILS THE ENDING OF BOOK 7!!! WARNING)

Hile!  You gunslinger,
Come, Commala, come
Long and tiresome your quest has been,
But now that quest is done.

Come, Commala to The Tower
You Son of Steven, the Last of Eld
Brandish those sandalwood grips once more
Prove your worth with the guns you have held.

Climb these steps equal to nineteen
Between each floor, dad-a-chum, ho-hum
Come, Come, Commala
Childe of Gilead, your quest is almost done.

Da-da-chum, da-da-chee, do you not see
Each floor holds something for you
Hear the call of the door at the top,
The door that is destined for you!

In the name of Sussannah, Oy, Eddie, and Jake,
In the name of the Artist, The Writer, the Pere
For all you have traveled, and yet also for you
The Song of The Tower is what brought you here.

Open your door, gunslinger,
Dejavu?  Feel the hands drawing you
Each time you forget the last time
Begin again, in alkali desert, thus Gan commands you.

Voices,
For you each time is the first time"
You scream "
God's no, Have Pity, Have Mercy!"
Say true, Gunslinger, how oft do you return
To be sent back to the desert so quickly?

Forget not the face of your father,
Yet forget all that has passed
As Ka commands, you must follow,
And relive everything that has transgressed.

The man in black fled accross the desert and the Gunslinger followed.

Move along, Roland Deschain, Co-Father to Mordred, Son of Steven, and Last in the line of Arthur Eld.  Forever shall you journey, and forever shall your story be known, and forever shall you reach your Tower, in the name of Gan, Amen.

So... why did the dead baby cross the road, my dearest Blaine?

I loved this series. Sadly, it took four months for my friend to talk me into reading it.

I wonder, though, what would happen if childe Roland to the Dark Tower did not come?

    Lovely

I just finished book 7, and remembered you had a poem on the subject. I didn't read it earlier because I didn't want to spoil the ending for myself. But as soon as I finished the book, the first thing I did was read your poem. And man, I have no words, say true, say thankya. Only this time he has the horn, doesn't he?
Mayhap this time it'll be different, mayhap this time he'll see the clearing at the end of the path.
Well, long days and pleasant nights!

    Impressive

I haven't read any of the books, but this poem makes me want to. The structure was phenominal...the way you worded the poem was enticing...I loved everything about this. Too bad I used up all of my applause for today :-((

I must say I love this. Im not just saying this to be nice, or just for something to say, but because it is true. I have read the gunslinger series since I was a teen. I remember waiting endlessly for Wizards and Glass to come after Wastelands. God that seemed like a horridly long period in my life. You have done such a beautiful job making a poem from the ending of the entire series. I loved it. Marvelous, Marvelous. !! I would applaud you about 100 times if I could but I cant. This was a great tribute to a series that has dominated much of my life. Thank you so much for sharing.

AH you ruined it! lol. I have read the series about a hundred times, sometimes starting in the middle and moving in a different direction and I'm currently waiting for me copy of VII to be sent to me (should be here soon! hooray!). I absolutely LOVE this poem. It is beautiful and incorporates important, though minute, details of the original story. If I am correct though, the dad-a-chum dad-a-chee line is supposed to be followed immediately by one that rhymes, as in the drawing of three, but I could be wrong. Anyway, beautifully written and worthy of many applause. Great job!!!! Do you have any more Dark Tower writes?

I must admit...I expected this to fall short of the hype...but I liked it. You ought to send it to SK... I think he would like it. A fitting tribute.

This is interesting! I liked the repetition of "Come, commala, come". Can't say I know the story of the books, or which books they are.. but uh, I sure liked your poem!

I like it, but it is a big spoiler. You shouldn't be so quick to reveal the ending SK didn't want you to read in the first place. Good poem though, the only criticism I have is the fact that it is a spoiler. I VERY much enjoyed the books. I read them straight through, starting sometime back in july and finishing a few weeks ago. You incorporated a lot of the language and rhymes from the book, which I like. I.E. dad-a-chum, commala, etc. I do think SK himself would like this. Good job.

Holds true to teh story, could be a part of i

I was expecting to be disappointed, it's an epic tale to try to work off. I'd never try it, but I have been inspired to put my own spin on other works, go figure. I think the best praise I can give it is: I think King would like like this, in fact I would almost think he wrote this as part of his work. A hell of a lot better then I expected. Fan fiction usually isn't this good. I think I used up my applause points but I am submitting one anyway

i must say that this is very much unlike anything i have ever read before. lol. i certainly was creative. it was well-structured and kept my attention for being so fictional (i think).

    This is a must read...

I'm a hugh Stephen King Fan, and have read the Dark Tower Series several times now... and to read your work here--is quite impressive, as if it grown from and into the books...the imagery is astounding and your use of steady rhythm and some wonderful fresh end rhymes add to the pleasure of this poem. The only nit I had was in S1, L3--I think the change over in meter felt rough there. Otherwise... Good writing! Best Wishes, Liz

I really wanna read this, but I cannot as I have not started reading the Dark Tower books, I will get round to it though, I promise I just wanted to say well done for writing something inspired by King, he is an awesome writer. I wrote some stuff about IT before but I never put it up on AP, also I wrote a poem inspired by Koko by Peter Straub
Anyways I am a ramblin' now

You've inspired to me to re-read the series again. I gave up after the third book and realized it would take him forever and a day to get to the tower, but seeing as how the last book is now out, I'm thinking I might just have to read it again. Wonderful write... powerful grasp of language and style.

I knew you were a fan the first time I saw your name!I am about to start the whole series over to read it through again. How can anyone be dissapointed in the end ? There was no end just the ever turning wheel.Maybe we should have a group dedicated to The Dark Tower series or even sk works in general. This does justice to the story and I'm so glad that it does. You have not forgotten the face of your father and I see you very well Gunslinger.May you have the grace of the White in all things.

YES! This is awesome! The Dark Tower books rock me socks. I love them so much. My friends all thought I was insane at school when I showed up every three days with ANOTHER Dark Tower book. Eeee. Stephen King is a very good author (no matter how mentaly messed up he is)... you do his book justice! Wonderful!! Very impressive.

I was almost half expecting to be `let down` by this poem when I read the title, buuut NOPE! It rules! Great imagry and way of making everything work and ending up strung together. Great photo too by the way!

Oooh i love this, it has some kind of deep rhythm too it that resonates amazingly in my head. Deeply more interesting than a simple poem. I love the character of the Gunslinger - imagine someone tall and attractive, although maybe influenced by the picture you put with it (its good, where did it come from?!)
    great poem!

    Great recap

I think the ending of the novel was great, for it proved to be nothing more but the final link of Ka, a wheel to spin again and recomence. A quest that was only a second within the surreality of inmortality for Roland. And your poem did pretty neat recap of those final moments, very crafty indeed ~ JPA

    Bravo!

It has the smell and feel of war to me! Then when you follow it to "Chide Roland to the Dark Tower Came", it is a chilling experience and what it must be like to be fighting in a war! Everyone should read it! We forget what war does to your soul! Anyway that's what I got out of it. Bravo! You are a brilliant writer for one so young! Thank You.
