By Heathcote’s sunlit banks and grasses green,
where grow the silver birch and willow tree,
and flax, toi-toi and native bushes lean
toward the flowing waters and to me,
My muse and I find quiet tranquillity
in dappled shade and softly fragrant breeze.
She passes thoughts to me with clarity
and fills my heart with everything she sees.
The swish of distant tyres on the far road
as traffic rushes past to disappear
fails to disturb the peace of this abode
where muse and poet find respite without fear.
May all the noise and stress of nowadays
never invade this haven where we laze.

Dear Gen,
What an a-musing idea!!! (GROAN!!)
Please go make some more sandwiches?
Love and hugs, XXX Hugh.

Dear Anne,
Yep, we all have sunscreen. If you're coming down there'll be room on the rug for you but you'll have to bring your own sandwiches - we've eaten all ours!
Love and hugs, XXX Hugh. -
Dear Bea,
I have just told Susan and Mari to move along and make room for you on the bench but I think we will spread a rug out on the grassy bank and the four of us can sit in the sunshine and eat cucumber sandwiches. We can also indulge in some collective musing?
Love and hugs, XXX Hugh. -
Joan -
we will fit you in no problem. maybe we will all just dance around Hugh like maids at a maypole. we can sit at his feet as he reclines on his riverside bench. We will just treat him like a king, or at least a prince...
Joan as far as I am concerned the party would not be the same with out you!

Dear Hugh
Another lovely sonnet. Is this the same place as described in "River Walk"? Sounds like a really peaceful place. I hope you are putting on plenty of sun screen if you're sitting out in our hot sun.
Love & Hugs XXX Anne -
Most enjoyable poem - I also love this sort of place to walk and think - Albert.

This is really cool! It was beautiful, it really was.... the picture reminds me of where I used to live (in the cou ntry) near some river. it's a really really pretty picture, and a great write.

calming
Beautiful! Made me think of Wind in the Willows... its like one of the pictures in my head.

it is good to have such a place of peace. It seems, that the leaks from the pressures of nowadays make such sanctuary rare & precious. My Muse will not allow me such a place to rest, perhaps, in time it will be so, that I should rest beneath the shady oak and write with a quiet repose. Envious, I am.

I dislike poems with poet in the title, or poem. Kinda ruined it for me.
*edit* However, I did thoroughly enjoy your vocabulary usage, and the poem itself..just a personal issue of mine that has no real point

Nice. i need to learn how to keep things seperate so I can SLEEP! I'm stressed all of the time. I'd rather like a place to go to; river bank with an apple and a book. sounds great.
way to take people there - excellent write.

Dear Cutie Pie,
Christchurch is indeed New Zealand's most English City but the riverbank, which is just over the road from the terrace where I live, is definitely 'kiwi'. Thanks for visiting and commenting.

Excellent
Ah, the tranquility of an English? Country riverbank...These sonnets attract me very much. Whether it is the structure or the words I am not sure, but I do enjoy the sedate passage of time through your words
-
Dear Mari,
I wonder if my Muse will stay with me when she finds me on the riverbank with Susan on one side and you on the other?
Don't forget bread for the ducklings which are bigger already.
Love and hugs, XXX Hugh. -
May I use that place too? It sounds like a corner of paradise to think and get inspired
Loved your thoughts about that place, and as usual, you two translated your thoughts using enchating words!
Thanks for the very pleasant read!
Fred & Ginger at their best
Kisses and love,
Mari

Someday I would like to see this tranquil river that flows so near your home. It has inspired your writing several times and appears to be a favorite retreat in every season.
I am wondering if your ducklings have grown up a bit and are the trees now all in full leaf?
another delightful trip down to the banks of the Heathcote, thank you for sharing it.
Your Forever Gen
