Grandma's Christmas

Missing image
I remember grandma's Christmas tree,
with silver tinsel hanging down,
the neighbors would all gather,
singing carols  throughout the town.

Every  front door would be decorated,
with a holly wreath adorned with berries,
a bright velvet red ribbon tied in a bow,
the vivid color of red sweet cherries.

We would sit with Grammy by the fireplace,
stringing popcorn to twirl around the tree,
as we roasted chestnuts on the open fire,
we would all  smile and giggle merrily.

An angel would sit atop the evergreen,
dressed all in white with a golden halo,
homemade cookies dangle from the branches,
on each branch we tied a red satin bow.

We all anticipated the arrival of Santa,
the wait was over,Christmas eve was here,
tonight we would find it hard to sleep,
listening for Santa's eight tiny reindeer.

There was a yule log carved from a birch tree,
Jesus lay in the manger under the tree,
these are remembrances of grandma's Christmas,
I hold them dear, all these cherished memories.

So beautiful. Christmas time is a time to be cherished, and I feel that this poem has done so wonderfully.

I do apologize for not having gotten caught up on noting on your poems. My online time had been scarce for a while.

OOOOO Sandy, I will start decorating the day after Thanksgiving...I love this time of year, my hubby's birthday is Christmas day, so it's so, so festive for us here! You covered just about every Christmas tradition I can think of! I admire that. I love the simplicity of Christmas poems...Plus, this year, I really want to take in all the Christmas I can get, for I'm going away with a friend this year and not coming home until the day after Christmas...My family's disappointed I'm not spending it with them, I think, and I slightly am too.
